vacume disconect

I just became the proud owner of a 1991 xj, this is my number eight!!!! the 4x4 is not engaging. The drive shaft was spinning, the hoses are vacuming. I grabed a buddy's extra off a 88 thast doesn't have a sensor. will this work on there? also the disconect that i pulled off my jeep had watter in the vacume actuator could that have been the cause of my problem because i can make it work with my mouth.

Those things are grap, just invest in a Posi-Lok for the axle, you'll save some stress aches from down the road.
