Will rising fuel costs affect your trip to Moab in any way? Going or not? Number of trails? The vehicle you take?

nope

Not at all.
I commented to the Wife that Diesel is going to be $4.00 a gallon by the time we leave for Moab. Guess that means I'll have to put 4 inch exhaust and a tuner in my Powerstroke. Strictly for the economy increases of course.:firedevil

Not only no, but hell no. I've already budgeted for $4.00 a gallon gas. If gas isn't that high, it just means I've got more money to spend on beer.

If it was $5.00 a gallon I would still go. I am not about to stop living because gas is expensive!

As Randy said...plenty of time to plan accordingly.

Yes fuel prices will effect my trip to Moab.... but I'm going anyway.

This is one  I won't miss. I am scheduled to be out of work Sept 30th and I'm still going.

I didn't go to the Moab FF in 05 or 06 because gas was too high at ( OMG ) $2.50 per gallon. I am going in 08 if I have to eat PB&J for the whole week.

Last year when I was planning my 2+ week expedition through CO and UT, my mom asked me why I was planning such a long trip with a lot of driving with gas prices so high.

My answer was that I would kick myself for not doing it now when gas prices are $5+/gallon in a few years.

Gas prices can only go up.....so drive now before they really become cost prohibitive.

That's my 2 cents

I figure I want to be the broke guy that attended and had a good time than the broke guy sitting at home wondering how much fun is happening in Moab.

The only thing fuel prices will effect is how much money I spend for the trip.

I'm going no matter what!! :D

We're going even if we have to spend the whole $3k tax return on diesel.

2138 miles to Slickrock.

Gas Prices are a non-issue.

I couldn't miss the 20th and I damn sure am not missing this one!!!:greensmok

Anyone have any info on all the trails they closed last November?:skull1:

I answered no, but it may speed up the purchase of a tow rig that can get double digit MPGs......

Since I don't have far to drive, I may as well not worry about gas...  . Actually there is 4 of us going so I'll only have to pay for a 1/4 of the gas...$200 at least. BTW if you see an old Red 87 Cherokee Chief with an Alabama tag on the side of I-70, he may need to borrow a gallon of gas :laugh3:

We are booking our flights this week and I was horrified to find that they have gone up 50% since we last checked in January. I'm dreading getting a revised price quote for the sea freight. We are coming, even if I have to sell her TJ...

I have never heard words that would get you a divorce faster :D

Does she know about these plans?

She's working so much lately, it's getting to be a struggle for her to take more time off than her official number of vacation days. Only, tonight she asked me how much do you think we would get for the TJ and XJ to buy a JK like Jared's and keep it in Utah.

:D

Wondered how long it would take you to come to your senses. I bet the shipping charges alone would cover half the build cost on one here.

Yes it would, and more. This year it will probably equal the cost of building a JK Rubicon for 35" tires.

It's a shame really. I just get the XJ built and then I move to a country where I can't even use it as a daily drive. The shipping charges are going to be a killer this year.

I'm going to play with the idea a little of selling her TJ back home and see what the numbers turn up. It makes a lot more sense to buy something local that will enable us to come back more often.

Yep. I can't go anywhere without my wife. If I don't bring her jeep I would never get to drive. 2 heeps x 3200 miles round trip x $3.50 /15 mpg = $1500 in fuel alone, not including tank ups for trails.

However, If I win the Lottery tonight, I'm in.

Uh, well, not exactly . . . .

Northeast to Moab = roughly 2500 miles each way (includes some local Moab miles for "exploration").

MPG - being generous, let's say . . . 18
(Maybe Mike's will get this, although mine sure doesn't! :tear: )

5000 / 18 = 278 gallons

"Stimulus" payout = $600

OK, if gas is $2.159, we've got it covered!!!!

Chance of gas being at $2.159 in Oct 2008 . . . . . :greensmok :roflmao:

No matter though, there'll be plenty of NAC diehards making this trip - it's downhill on the way back (after Eisenhower tunnel), we'll just coast!

i have different math.......
single parent claiming head-of-household... $1200
2 dependant kids....... $600

that is just about exactly enough for the trip...

I voted yes...but let me explain

Its about 1530 to moab for me...I figured 3500 miles just to be safe. With the cummins getting about 9 mpg towing two jeeps on a trailer at $5 bucks a gallon...because its already 4.099 around here now...thats nearly $2k...

So instead of haulin two of my own rigs out, I'm gonna haul someone that is going to split fuel with me...sooooo if fuel was cheaper I bring two of my own, but due to the prices I'll have someone coming that will split fuel with me...

mac 'still cummins...but not strokin' gyvr

I had planned on taking the RV, but with gas costing what it is, I'm taking the diesel and will hang at a cabin.

But I'm going to be there.
