Hello Everyone,
My name is Kris i'm 27, I'm married and have a 3 year old daughter.
I live in El cajon bout to move to Santee. Anyhow I'm putting a new trans in this 89 XJ I aquired last week. I miss off roading, so i'm looking for some people to get a lil dirty with. I know a few groups i looked into it seemed everyone was well u know old enough to be my grandfather. I was trolling the forum and saw that home brew was younger than me so i figured i'd say hi.
Guess i'm just wondering how many people u have active in ur chapter?
If u guys run the deserts or stick to rock crawling?
How many XJ gear heads u have that I can annoy with thousands of questions?
U know the normal stuff a guy would ask who has never joined a club before.
Anywho thanks for your time
Kris Kline

well id guess active is a hundred or so members
we have people who do it all and others who stick to thier poisen youll quickly realise who likes to go fast as they are the ones who talk about jeepspeed and rock hounds talk about JV like it's heaven I personally like to do more trails and exploring
as for how many XJ gear heads you can annoy with questions the club in general is huge so ask away just dont be surprised you get told to search

Man did you come to the right place to ask questions. This group knows their stuff when it comes to the XJ, Jeeps, and wheeling in general. Chances are any problem or project you might have has already been encountered and tackled by someone in this group.
Welcome and ask away, and you'll see.:D

Welcome Kris.
There are a few old farts around here. But they hold their own. ;)
I think we have youngsters all the way to 60+ (I'm not going to mention any names)
Guess i'm just wondering how many people u have active in ur chapter?
Don't know.. We can never get everyone in one place at one time..
If u guys run the deserts or stick to rock crawling?
Everyone has their likes and dislikes.. Me.. I like rocks and desert stuff.. I'm getting tired of fixing my rig after a mud run.. I'd rather break it on a rock. :D
How many XJ gear heads u have that I can annoy with thousands of questions?
We have plenty. Just make sure that you post topics in the appropriate forum. All stock stuff should go into the stock forum http://naxja.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=44 and any that pertains to modification should go into the.. *drum roll* modification forum http://naxja.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=43

Welcome to the madness. We are doing a run on sunday you are welcome to attend and meet some of the fellas. One of the great things about this place is that every run you go on you can almost certenly expect to meet someone new. What are the specs on your jeep?

So far it's just me out here but there are many houses for sale on my street, and I'm sure there are good deals to be had. I'd be stoked if there were more jeeps in my hood. There is a ZJ in the hood but he never even waves. ELITIST!

Anyhow i just got it last week and it has stock suppension with 30 inch tires
its the 4.0 with the AW4 trans
The trans is in the shop now should be out tomorrow or friday.
I got a loose steering colum that i have to fix ASAP and then i need to put some miles on it and see if it holds together.
The 30" tires are rubbing and getting cut by the stock fender flare center bolts so i think i'm going to put 235 70R15's on it this weekend. After watching that video i'm guessing i'm going to need to drop in a lift of some sort.

Is very nice but for 1700.00 it will take me a few months to aquire. So i'm guessing Sunday might be out of the question.
I'm looking into the AWshifing.com shift controller for my AW4.
I was always a big Ocotillo Wells and Borrego fanatic, did alotta hunting around 4 corners and bronco flats.
So i dunno if any of u married " On a Budget " types have any advice i would love to hear it.
thanks again

I recommend you take care of the safety items first, recovery points, tow straps, a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, CB, then go with a lift. If you're on a budget there are always lifts and parts being sold on here, you just have to be quick on the draw as stuff goes quickly. Many members do all sorts of work for other members here so you can save a little scratch that way. You will develop better driving skills if you stay with a mild lift to start and listen up to all the veteran wheelers on this site. Get skills first and then get lifted and locked. But by all means, welcome to the site and our sport and have fun!! :D

You could still come out Sunday and just ride along with someone. Frankly I'm hopin' we do anything too nutty as this my rigs 2nd trip out and 1st time on the rocks...but we'll see. =)
Anywho, I've got seats open and I think a few others do to. You're certainly welcome to ride along.
And if ya need any help with your junk, I'm always willing to sit around, drink your beer, and give bad advice. =)

Thanks SandiegoXJ... i love it when people drink my beer.
Speaking of Beer anyone here an Arrogant Bastard Fan... i do love my stone beer.
My wife has sunday all planned out with a company meting and couch shopping for the house in Santee.
That damn trans is gunna cost me 1,962.00 Grr... Arr I bought 4 redbulls and 2 packs of Marlboro's this morning and now i'm 20 bucks short.
U know what, I know where 4 corners is so if i can sneak out in the morning I'll head up there just to say hi and put a few more miles on that trans before i have to take my daughter to the snow on the 7th for her birthday.
The title on this thread is an eye sore .. think i need to troll someone elses thread n let this one fade away

Just a thought how about pulling a yard tranny and putting it in. I know you get what you pay for, but if you can find a low mile jeep might be worth the effort ecspecially if you go on half price day. Or is this idea to late?

I have a junkyard trans in the trunk but i decided to as u said get what i pay for so i went the expensive route and had the entire thing rebuilt. I get it outta the shop today and yea i'll be broke for a while, but at least i'll have a safe trans. I told the shop they could have that junk yard trans.
Project number 2 is the loose steering colum i have to go buy a steering wheel puller and a lockplate tool gut that shit and tighten the bolts. fun shit
That last big fire really hurt ... my dads house in dulsura burn down along with my rollaway packed with bout 6 grand in snap-on tools all my welding equipment and my baja bug lol Seems like every project i have i have to go buy more tools for it lol
I'm going to drive out to bulevard on Saturday to Lake domingo and the gun club... that will put some miles on that trans and help me discover anymore junk i gotta fix .... not to mention i can play in a lil mud

no need to change tire size from rubbing. Add bumpstops or relocate your fender flares up higher and trim the flare bolts.

by gawd, please dont get that lift kit. its seems nice at first but when you see ppl on the trail break their rusty long arms, its difficult to safely get back home.

Welcome, there are lots of us in the socal area. Our ages are various just like our experience. Don't worry, there aren't any jerks here like on some of the other sites(ie. pirate4x). So ask away but make sure you do a thorough search before. Good luck with the build and make sure you pad the price of what you are begging for. Haha, I have to do the same and I learned that one fast.
