Interesting thing, if the tuna are not hitting the live bait a 4ft harpoon hand thrown, if one gets close enough to the boat, with about 4 floats works well too, takes almost the same amount of time to wear em out as it does with a pole and reel but it does work...just burns more fuel following the floats...

I woulden't harpoon. Could possibly damage the felet. I don't gaf either. Good ol` fashond Rod and Reel. Of corse I have't been tuna fishing in a hell of a long time so I can't say I know much about that game.

i gaff e'm but a good gaff pull through the head saves your meat, i won't let anyone else gaff the fish because i know they will screw it up, unless it needs two gaffers, if its that big i just want the bastard in the boat

You got any idea how big a 459lb tuna is, you don't 'pull them into the boat' you tie em off by the tail and drag them into the harbor to the winch where they get pulled out and iced down into a truck...
Also missed breakfast the other morning so on the way out we chowed down on fresh raw bluefish...not bad, not that good either considering there was no handy wasabi around, raw blue and coffee, good start to the day :D :D
will post pics when I get around to pulling them off the camera... and no drooling over the first mate either, she was only 17 but OMG what a 17....

They're right next to the barbless fish hooks.

i had a guy almost shoot a hole in my boat once, i always kill the sharks i pull up but i use a club cause i want my hook back (circles are expensive). this guys idea of vacation is drink more beer than usual, when we pull up a shark i reach for my club he says he's got it and stumbles over to the side of the boat and pulls out his .38 needless to say the gun got put up for the rest of the day

Here ya go riverf'r. Not exactly huge as far as tuna goes, but a kick on the fly!
A flyfishing aquaintance of mine, Gary (www.garybulla.com (http://www.garybulla.com)), with a 20 lb skipjack tuna he caught with one of my 'live squid" patterns I tied.

I bet that was a scream to get in. Especially in that kayak. Is that an 8 or 10wt.? What a pretty fish.

I'm guessing it was a 10 wt. They hook some big fish out there.
