The resulting effect of a diagnosis should not have any pull on whether someone goes for that diagnosis. One should'nt avoid an eye exam because failing that exam would recind their license. However, I do believe that they should be aware of the ramifications of the diagnosis afterwards and should be able to get a second opinion. Just last week my roomate, an Iraqi war vet. went to be diagnosed with ADD so he could get adderal perscribed to him to help with studies. He had not been diagnosed with PTSD before in previous exams but was able to make it look like he had it now. This being said, its very easy to shop around for doctors that will give a negative diagnosis so the veteran can keep his weapon.

So, how much of a "right" is it if it keeps getting incrementally chipped away like this? It does cause one to wonder...

Disarm the citizenry at every opportunity, then release up to twenty thousand crack addicts. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/03/03/crack.release/index.html

A major reason I find it really difficult to get behind liberal agendas. They may do something reasonable and socially responsible, then they generate obviously idiotic legislation like this.

Disenfranchise veterans and then release crack addicts early.:banghead:
I don't know but maybe it's just me, a troubled soldier who has likely run around with a loaded weapon for years in the military is refused a weapon license because he is suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome (which in my eyes is a perfectly reasonable response to being shot at an IED'd regularly) compared to 20,000 drug dependent criminals who's likely first order of business, will be to buy a piece on some street corner. I fail to see the logic.

Who would you rather have move in next door?

Punishment for seeking help. Yeah, that's a great idea. I'd like to see the data they are using to justify this act. .00000* of all homicides are commited by Veterans. Whatever the number, I'm sure it is stastically insignificant.
