My screen gets fuzzy once in a while. I use to hit the auto process button and it would go away. Now it's not helping I have to turn it off for a while to get it to go away. Anybody else ever had this problem, So I am guessing there is no way to fix this. Am I gonna just have to buy a new one?

What brand?

Most likely. on the old CRT monitors, you could have the color guns repaired - usually the connections just needed re-soldering. LCDs arent really repairable. they are to the point now where it would be cheaper to buy a new one than repair your current one. even when we have ones go bad that are under warrenty, they dont fix them, they send us a brand new one and have us send the old ones back b/c its cheaper that way.

I figured it would just be easier to get a new one, just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem before.

This is going to sound dumb, but try a different resolution.

LCDs can't go out of focus, but they may have issues figuring certain resolution levels and how to map them to the screen,

X2

Try a different refresh rate.

Ok changed the refresh rate from 60 hertz to 75. See if this helps. Its not doing it now, wait and see if it does it again. Where do I change resolution?

Right click on your open desktop, menu pops up, scroll down to properties, click on properties.
Display properties window opens.
Settings tab, then move the screen resolution slider (usually 1024x768), even try the color quality and see if that makes a difference. Click approve, usually it will ask if you want to restart computer with changes, you should be able to just change it without restarting. Gives you a 15 second chance to convert back if the resolution does not work.
Let it go back automatically if it is unreadable.
Remember your settings so if it doesn't work. GO BACK.
Only do one at a time, not all at once.

Hope this helps.

Ok that made everything HUGE, only other setting was 800x600. I changed the refresh rate we'll see if that helps. Thanks.

My laptop screen is at 1024x768 @ 60 hertz. Looks normal size.
Another thing, could your video card be acting up? Bad cable?

Couple of quick questions, do a right click on 'my computer', pick properties, pick
'hardware' 'device manager', on the icons list that shows up click 'display adapters' tell me what it says, best guess with it being an E machine will be Intel but I don't know what emachine you have. Lets go from there. I may not get back to this till the morning.

thats a pretty basic on board video setup. you can try getting a new video card, but if smacking the monitor clears up the fuzziness, then its not your current video card....

Agree, a non working or mis working item that responds to a smack is usually a good indication you found the problem.

I suspect that you're using an old video card and trying to drive the monitor through analog. That does not usually work very well at higher resolutions. Even newer video cards have trouble keeping the image stable at today's high resolutions. The cables and connectors are not designed for the signal bandwidth that's needed to produce the resolution at acceptable frequency so the images get distorted. I have to run my monitor on digital for a clean picture.

Check out www.newegg.com, had good results with Acer's, no returns and I have over a 100 that I have sold to customers when they buy a system. The flip side is I won't sell a system without a 650VA UPS, that also extends the life of the hardware quite a bit.

Just reading this, I had a problem similar to this running my PS3 with an HDMI to DVI cable through my Dell 21" widescreen flat panel. It ended up being a loose connection between the cable and the plug on the back of my monitor. I tightened the thumb screws and it went away.

Love my Dell flat panel, though. I got it from the Dell refurbished outlet for a really good price. I've really liked Samsung LCDs in the past, too.

Post up and let us know what you got and how you like it!

generally changing the refresh rate on an lcd is a bad idea, most lcds are locked to 60hertz.

Samsung FTW!

That's some serious geek porn right there.......

I picked up parts at lunch to build up a new box at home (first new hardware in 7 years.) 2.4gHz quadcore w/ 8gb of memory.

In about 2 weeks, I'm gonna be picking myself up a new monitor of some sort. I've been using a 20" CRT since 1996. I'll get either a 22" or 24" 1920x1200 flat panel.

Ok that works, my laptop and one spare box run Unbuntu. My current build I'm doing will max out at 4gigs because I refuse to run Vista on my gaming rig.

<grumble> Okay, I'm a dinosaur. My home boxes all run SCSI drive systems. And the new motherboard apparently doesn't like to boot from the Adaptec 39160 HBA. More tinkering is necessary.
