View Full Version : Anyone got a hook-up.......

Hey so I'm a nearly broke college kid tryin to finish up my D44 and I am tryin to find a Auburn ECTED locker for cheaper than the $535+ that I have seen them go for. I have looked everywhere but I just haven't seen anything cheaper than that. Does anyone have a hook-up to get one of these for cheaper? Say like $350-$425? I know there are cheaper lockers out there but I don't want a cheapo lunch box locker and I want something selectable and at the same time I love the way my factory limited slip drives on the street and I really don't want to give that up. So the ECTED is the one that meets all of that. I did find out that Eaton makes an elcetronic mechanical locker that is a limited slip when not engaged but it was like $850 which not even a realistic option. However, if anyone has a hook-up on one of those to get one in my price range then I will take that too. Anyway please help a fellow Jeeper out here yall.

You certainly are picky to be on a small budget.

I'll stand behind my Loc-rite. But you don't want a crappy lunch box locker. Good luck finding what you want.

Well I drive my Jeep everyday on the street/highway unfortunately more than off-road but when I have taken it out wheelin I have been burdened by limited traction on hills that a locker would prevail over a limited slip but I still want the limited slip for street driving and mild off highway driving. So what I am saying is if I am paying someone to get in there then might as well have it be something nice that meets my needs and is worth the money. I know those lunch box lockers and automatice lockers work but I want somethin that I control when its engaged and disengaged. Yah I am being a little picky but at the same time why spend the money on something I don't want and doesn't meet my needs.

If thats your logic, then save your pennies and do it right.

X2... obviously... if you can't find it in your price range... you don't have enough money... save up.

I hear all of you guys I trust me I understand that I should just save up and be patient and all that but I kinda need to get it done and in by the time I need tires which isnt too long from now and im movin up from 31s to 33s and im gearing for 33s with some 4.56s so if it was just the locker then yah I would say screw it i can wait but i kinda have a time limit here so I am just trying to see if someone can get it for a little less than the going rate. But if anyone knows paitience its me because I have been building my Jeep for 5 1/2 years and I had to wait for birthdays and Christmas to come around before I could do anything because my parents didn't want me to have a job while I was in school since I have ADD so bad they were afraid that a job would hurt my grades and that rule is still the same today. The little bit of money that I have saved up working during the summers have been for the axle, gears, install of gears, bushwackers (dont want to hear any crap about them already got them and I got them used), tires, and finally the locker. But time is not on my side here with this and I can't just stop driving my Jeep because its the only car I have and I need it to get around and I have tried cutting back driving it around as much but when I got to go somewhere then I have to drive it. So again I understand what yall are sayin but this is my situation and why I am asking if anyone has a hook-up for the locker.

You shouldnt decide to do major modifications if you dont have the $$ and have to put down your only vehicle. Remember changing one thing only leads to changing others.

Why do you HAVE to have it before you get tires? You can put a locker in anytime.

Unless laziness has set it in... I would just run it open until you can afford said locker.... even if you have to buy an open carrier until then ($40, big woop)..

Well first of all the locker that the axle is going in is a D44 out of an 87-89 XJ and second I would do it myself but I don't have the money or the time to do it myself because I am in college and live in a very small apartment so I have to pay someone else to do it. The axle must be rebuilt because its been sitting around open with not fluid for a long time with the axle shafts removed and out in the open not my decision it was the way it was when I bought it from the guy who pulled it fromt the yard 5 years ago. This is a chain reaction build if you do one thing then the other must be or is highly recommended to be done. I can't afford gas if I run 33s without re-gearing nor do I want to put that much stress on my Jeep with the amount of highway driving I have to do so re-gearing is in order. It costs almost the same amount to have a locker put in as it does to re-gear but its the same price nothing extra if I do them both at the same time. So once again the money is a problem I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE THE DIFFERENTIAL WORKED ON TWICE. So I am forced to to it all at once I am asking for help not criticism if you can't help me then I don't care what you think I should do. I have given this alot of thought and this is the only way to accomplish what I am trying to do. I am simply asking if anyone has a hook-up on getting lockers for a cheaper price like wholesale or at cost or something. Just like some people ask their buddy at Best Buy to use their employee discount to get that TV they want for $150 dollars cheaper than normal pricing. Its the same thing and thats what I am asking. My tires are getting close to needing to be replaced. I can't afford to buy the same size and then go up later before the tires wear out not to mention thats a huge waste of money. I can't re-gear before I get the 33s because then that would make my RPMs on the highway run real high which isn't good for the Jeep just like running in 3rd gear doing 80 in a 5-speed jeep isn't good. There is no laziness here or stupidity I am not new to this stuff I have done the research I know what I am doing I just wanted to know if anyone could help me out. My budget is $3500 to spend for everything and after adding it up I managed to find a set of the bushwackers for $150 and I even dropped having a spare tire but I still about a $100+ over budget.

You're not going to carry a spare tire? real smart...

If you were a paid member, im sure there would be a couple vendors that would kick some $$ back at you.

firstly: have you ever heard of semi colons and periods?
secondly: I would stick with what these other folks are saying... they know. But personally i wouldn't get lockers.. they sort of take the challenge out of everything. It makes things that were once fun no longer enjoyable, and then it's sort of a "now what" type deal. but then again it is your rig, so do what you damn well please :):dunce:

1st: NO, no one can get you the 'hook-up'.

2nd: Become a paying memer and buy from one of our supporters - there is your discount

3rd: Save the 150 for the cheesy Bushcrackers and buy a locker!

At the very least put off something that can wait. Go ahead and use the money for the Wackers and buy the locker. Then, save for the Crackers again.

4th: Why are we numbering our statements?
