Back when I went through fire school, some of the instructors told us about the old VW with magnesium blocks, and how hard they were to put out. Most of the time, they just let them burn up.

The guy that filmed that video had a fire extinguisher..it didn't do much (that video along with the story was posted on VWvortex last year). That wasn't a fire that was going to be put out by one of those tiny car extinguisers.

That was a case where if you mod your car, you'd better know WTF you're doing...he fawked up (something to do with the oil return/feed line for the turbo if i remember correctly).

Maybe but...They didn't show the extinguisher until way after the fire started. Maybe...just maybe if they would have got on it right off the bat they could have put it out.
