seems to be pretty stout. not bad for around 6.00 total incl. ship.
Anyone have any reasons why I should not use one?
Thanks!

I prefer marine connectors myself. Smaller profile, can still disconnect, and you know that there aren't any internals that can take a dump limiting/preventing current draw.
My 2 cents..

I used to have one on my jeep and on my 65. They are both in the trash now. It works great for awhile then corrodes quickly. There is plastic between the pieces of metal that keeps it from connecting when the green knob is not screwed down. The idea is a good one but someone needs to make one with a different more durable material between the metal. Stout it is not but for $6 if you want to try it out, why not?

What year? You could loose all the memory in the ECU.
The only other bad thing is if there a fire under the hood you won't be able to get to it.

used to use one of those exact ones to find parasitic draw in cars

At least through 99, and as far as I know through the model run, no XJ ECU's have learning capabilities, so all you'd lose is stored codes if there are any.
Long ago in a galaxy far away, Peugeots used to come with a similar switch as standard equipment. Not a lot of electronics back then. My first two 403's had tube radios. I don't suppose any of you young wihippersnappers even know what a vibrator is for, much less remember the days when you sometimes had to whack the dashboard to get it started.

Just don't go pulling the plug while the engine is running unless you think your engine computer likes 40 volts ac instead of a nice 12-14 volts dc.
