I'm thinking about making a quick day trip to TSF on Saturday (2/23). Anyone else interested?

A small group would be nice. I'm thinking about heading off towards Archers Firebreak, do something different.

Well, hopefully it'll snow some between now and then. I went up towards browns camp on sunday, just did a quick trail then left, I WAS just passing through.... Anyway, there was around 2 feet of snow on the ground but it'd been there a while so the snow on the trails had the tracks worn into it and it had refrozen and it pretty much just bounced you along in the tracks, prett lame...

Yikes, it looks like the tracks have gotten worse since I was up there 2 weeks ago. Granted, I was pretty limited in getting a stock XJ around, but those tracks look to be in much worse shape.

We just did a short section of powerline right before the closed gate to Browns Camp staging area.

i have been driving to tillamook once a week for work at the lumber mills and that snow looked amazing a few weeks ago. Not so good now though. Wish my jeep was done so I could go this weekend!

How does 9:00 at Rogers Camp sound? CB Ch4.

I'm not to worried about the snow. We'll figure something out when we get there. Regardless of the conditions it will be fun, always is.

Torx, man I gotta go wheelin' some time with you guys again...You guys should have a great time last Saturday we were on the Powerline.. After the University closed trail on the powerline it gets interesting through the twisting and turning section.. Be aware of this though, Myself and a pizgauer chained up on all fours were the only ones to make the hill climb at the powerline after the twisting turning section.. All of our rigs were locked f/r except for 1 who had a front locker only... Should be a blast though...
I hope this helps...here's pics in the 2-16-08 folder below..

Thats what it sounds like. Firebreak 5 was doable a couple weeks ago, but since then others have reported its gotten worse. I'll be cusious to see what its like.

FYI, We had a few guys back out on the powerline to "scout" our next intended trail which was firebreak. they were told an XJ locked I believe w/35's was stuck on the first section and people were waiting for his return.
Powerline should be a lot of fun, and who knows maybe the snow will be at less Firebreak this time. We had one guy after airing up get stuck in the parking lot at Rogers with lockers turned off then on still could not get out with out a tug..
enjoy, and give us a report as you usually do Torx.

Well there were only two of us today, myself and mudxj92. We left Rogers around 9:30 and headed straight for Firebreak 5.

We stopped at the first rocky hill climb on the first section to scout. The snow was really well packed, but at the same time very slick if you had too much tire speed.

Cody was first to give it a shot. We both quickly realized we underestimated the difficulty. He couldn't get any traction to move forward. After a couple attempts and some small progress I decided to give it a try. I had a little better luck and was able to crawl up the hill until I caught my rear pumpkin on a rock. I would like to think with some more tries I could have made it, but two more groups came up behind us so we let them give it a shot. Not before long the trail turned into a wet slush that rejected most rigs.

Unless your setup resembles this...

The jeep made this look like a beginner trail, taking a high line on the right and then cutting up the bank on the left. The toyota was running rear boggers and front TSL's, needless to say they were working quite well for him.

With the trail so torn up, and a large group at the top we decided to turn around and head for the second section. The roads were very well packed with ruts limiting your freedom. When we got to the second section Cody began on the trail and within a few feet sunk to his frame. I gave him a quick tug out, and then preceeded to get myself stuck. At the same time Cody got stuck again. We then made the decision to head down.

On to Cedar Tree. With the current logging going on in the area, the trail was in bad shape for the first section. Lots of tree limbs and branches on the trail. I think I added a few more NW Pinstripes to my doors.

Under the Cedar Tree.

This part was actually really tense. The trail was off camber due to the snow. While climbing the hill the rear end wanted to slide down.

Nearing 3:00 we came to the end of Cedar Tree and were ready to start heading out. There was a large group in front of us, and a scout on the road making very slow progress on the road which leas out. 45 minutes later he finally breaks through to the top, and we can begin our "journey" down.

When I got out to the road (where the scout was) I quickly realized my front end was acting like a snow plow. The snow in the middle was well over my axle. Progress was steady at first, but after the snow accumulated underneath I lost momentum. Cody gave me a tug backward, and we shoveled the front end clear.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t123/Torx_89/Browns%20Camp%202-08/P1010031.jpg

2nd gear low range, into third gear low range 2500rpm, and 25 feet later I was plugged up again. We must have shoveled and tugged at least four times before I could get enough momentum to keep going.

Later on down the hill I got stuck again, and Cody got stuck behind me. Luckily we had a (modified) Isuzu Trooper following us who helped shovel and tow.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t123/Torx_89/Browns%20Camp%202-08/P1010032.jpg

A full 2 hours later we finally reached the gravel road. Neither of us expected it to be that bad or deep.

I was really happy with my AT's performance today!

It was supposed to be a quick simple day, but like usual it wasn't. It was however a lot of fun (maybe not a the time :D), and the weather was spectacular. Now in the meantime the snow needs to start melting. Im ready for spring and summer wheeling!

and lockers.

yeah wow that was an awesome run!
even though the snow got in our way it was still cool to finally hit Cedar Tree trail again.
it was crazy watching those guys go up Firebreak, even though that guy with the huge jeep hit my little xj! haha
we need to get a nother run going once spring rolls around.
i'll keep you updated on the snow situation.
