Bar Pin Eliminators, dimensions anyone?

Folks,

I need to fabricate some front BPEs soon (no time to order them from USA), so I was wondering if someone has done it before and has the dimensions available.

I did a search, but found nothing. A write-up somewhere would be fine.

Use your rear swaybar mounts. take dimensions from them if you have them in use.

If you use that metric stuff from where you are at, then you should feel right at home, :D

For the front you will have to make or buy some. Unless you want to adapt the rear sway bar mount for the front. I built mine and they worked fine but I am about to change the desighn.

I have not done a write up but could when I redo mine. All I used the first time was 1" angle. But the heads of the bolts interfeared so I'm redoing them with 2" angle.

Thanks to all who took the time to write. Jason, from JEEPIN.COM gave me the right dimensions, 1.5x1.5" angle, 3mm thick.

Hey Chuck, can you arrange for me to get an AX-5 too? My 1984 has the same setup with yours, only it has the %^&*& T-5, which is approaching the end of its useful life!

Did the AX-5 came from the factory or was it something you swapped? Any issues with the engine matting or the 207 matting?

AX-5 was standard from the factory behind the 207. I have three in my shop now. One in the jeep, one with a toasted cluster gear and input gear, & one that "didn't shift right" that is open and being inspected for repair and fitment into the xj behind the 94 yj engine I'm going to have in my possesion tomorrow. Oh and after I get the YJ engine I will have a 4th that is out 5th gear. Just found out that the engine I bought had a tranny and T/C attached to it. Let me know if I can help you.

I'm sure our setup's are different, I do have the MT, but it's the AX-15 with the 4.0L HO motor. you may be able to an AX-5 swap but might require going to the 21 splined NP231 T-case.

Sure, sure you can. But I doubt if I could afford your help. A gearbox shipped to Greece, would cost me as much as a full XJ costs you over there, and a late one actually!

Many thanks for the offer though. What I would like to know is if indeed an AX-5 would fit the 1984 carburated 4-cyl. engine and the 207 TC. I ws thinking of having my T-5 ovehauled, but I am not sure if it is worth it.

naw, you misread me....I swear I'm not trying to be a smartass....

its kinda like "let the jeep design it FOR you"....

the parameters are known, and the constraints are already set. the tape measure is the only thing you really need.

In the early years, the AX-5 and T-5 were used interchangeably. I believe the XJ was designed to use the AX-5 but Aisin Seiki (the manufacturer) couldn't meet the demand so AMC/Jeep filled in with T-5s.

Ummmm, Chuck ...

Dunno quite how to break this to you, mate, but this write-up describes shock extenders, not bar pin eliminators. If you look at the end result, the bar pins are still there.

I read that he was asking for dimensions, and therefore Gojeep has many, I thought I was being nice to give him something to chew on, otherwise I would have been like Beez, and told him to pull out a tape measure. \

Hey folks,

Don't worry too much about it any more, I have the dimensions I was looking for. All that remains now, is to go looking for that piece of angled steel, in the pile of junk of my basement. I think I've seen something useful, when I altered my e-brake cables.

As for tape measure, owing a Jeep does not necessarily means I trust my mechanical abilities in some cases. And this particular truck has made me seriously doubt about my skills, on more times than one.
