View Full Version : On the Skids....

I've been looking at underbody skids for some time now. I've seen all kinds of configurations, esp for the transfer case and transimission area. Some look rather loony, hard to remove when you do tranny/t-case service. Some are rather expensive.

I have the mopar t-case skid, which does work well as a rock catcher and road grader, esp on the kelly humps ;-) On the powerline trail. It's served me well, kept my t-case from getting punched. My tranny crossmember gets most of the abuse.

I really dont intend to go extreme rock crawling with my rig even if I took it higher. I just need protection...you know, for "Safe Wheeling".

When I was driving on SR26 on the way back home Sunday what looked like a cooler lid came off an open trailer in front of me and landed in my lane. I had no option but to run over it, and it thunked the underbody pretty good. It didnt do any damage, but thats one reason I am going to get my gas tank skid installed and want more protection. Too much crap on the roads. Like Toy-otas and Hyundais. ;-)

What plates/mfgrs have you guys used that are worthwhile?

I just picked up a rustys t-case skid, their on sale for 90$ plus shipping (I paid 43.00$ for ground!!!?:smsoap: ) pretty nice for the price. I was gonna go with the skid row t-case skid from jeepinoutfitters.com (125$ free shipping) but rustys had some other stuff I needed to get. I'll 2nd the DPG recomendation. Everything I have seen of his has been really high quality. I am running a stock gas tank skid, but will go to DPG's as money allows
