I'm looking for a cheap way to mount tow hooks on my 92 xj, I've seen that Rusty's makes a tow hook mounting piece but it's $75, and I was looking for something to get me through till I get the money for a new beefier bumper. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Find some 1/4" plate and something to cut it with and make your own otherwise you are SOL.

There really is no cheap proper way to have tow hooks. Why you ask? Well the Rustys towhooks and bracket take the stress of pulling off the unibody, and without them say goodbye to your unibody. Custom4x4 fabrication sells them somewhat cheaper and they really are nicer and have an extra brace on them to take possibly more punishment. Unless you can make your own towhook mounts or find them used at a junkyard----factory style, then you are really S.O.L for the cheap way. ------Kyle

You can get a front hitch, I recommend the Drawtight, more than the towhooks, but adds strength to the UB.

I did. There are more pictures on my site but this is the finished product.

I built those with skill saw and a drill. They are made of 2x6x.25 Rect tube. That hook was tested with a 18 wheeler stuck in the sand next to my office. I snatch him several time and moved him about 15-20 feet b4 the strap broke.

will factory brackets/tow hooks from the older style xj swap directly into a '97+?
