So I got a call from the gunsmith that has my Para .45, and he said he'll be done with my Para by next week. He's taken his sweet time smoothing my Para out, but I've been really satisfied with the work he's done with my other firearms.
Shortly, I will see you guys at the range! :D

I've been without my Dan Wesson for about a week now, just another few weeks left.
I'm having the frame matte- chrome plated and the top treated in a tennifer-type treatment that should resist wear pretty well. He's also undercutting the trigger guard (so my hand fits a little higher on the frame), EGW thick bushing and a basic reliability job. New tritium insert for the front sight too, 'cause it's dim.
I'd kinda like a nice ground-up 1911 build, thinking about starting with a Fusion frame and slide- and possibly having Fusion do the whole thing if they will.
Post pics when you get it back!

I still miss my Dan Wesson. It was a stainless .357 with 4 and 8 3/8 inch barrels and a beautifully figured Hogue grip on it. It shot like a dream. Like a complete fool, I traded it in on another gun and have regretted it ever since. :tear:

When I can afford it I'm gonna send my 70 series out for a reliability job

I think I am going to be buying a new Kimber real soon! Wish I could afford a more custom 1911 but Kimber makes a good gun in my price range.

So what all is he doing to it?
It was an older Para that I got in a pawn shop. What drew me to hit was the fact that it had a GI issue Ithaca slide and a GI issue S&W barrel. Even came with the hicap magazine. It was a real deal too, so I snapped it up.
Because of these 'odd' parts, it had some hiccups on the range, namely smokestacking and failure to engage the sear and trigger at random times. It also was finicky about ammo it ate.
So I had my gunsmith throat and polish the barrel, enlarge the ejection port, install an extended trigger, commander style hammer, beaver tail, and a flat spring housing.
He said he wouldn't give it back to me until it was perfect. So now I'm looking forward to having a perfect Para in my grubby little hands.

I hear you. I hate the way the cylinders on the DW work on the front of the cylinder, but my first handgun was a 6" DW .357 that I sold to a friend to buy a Colt King Cobra in .357. I don't know why ad to have the timing fixed several times and it was still a POS.

Sounds like it will be a dream to shoot when he is done. Congrats man! I wish we had a local gunsmith that still did work like that.
