Has anyone seen any load cell data collected during vehicle recovery? I'm curious to see what the actual loads on winch rope are during various kinds of recovery. I came across this "investigative report" done by Mile Marker basically tearing Warn apart because their steel rope consistently broke below the rated capacity of the winch. http://www.winchtest.com/

Lets see.. a test, done by the competitor, showing ill favor.
I watched that video once and wasnt moved by it. It saddens me that 8 years later, MileMarker is still pushing it.

Yeah, I'm sure there was some bias in there but it just got me thinking. Although, back when I worked in R&D at a spark plug company, when competitor plugs failed in our tests it wasn't because we were skewing test procedures or results. Sometimes the competition just sucks lol. That's not to say we never had problems with our own plugs, though.

I think I remember reading in the Four Wheelers Bible that the author did a little research of his own ( he just attached a spring scale when he was winching ) and he said that most pulls did not get too far above 3000#. I don't have the book handy so someone might wanna check that.

I've seen a Warn 8000 completely stall and burn it's solenoids trying to pull a Jeep out of a bog. That was with the winch cable on the first wrap of the drum and using a snatch block. I reckon it was pulling at or beyond it's stated capacity.

Thats what Snatch blocks are for. :D
I have stalled my 9000lb out too.
