Just noticed, as a lil Burple XJ pulled behind me at the gas station.. that his factory roof rack was longer... mine quits just before the front doors, and his want to the winsheild.. Never noticed this.

He came up and asked where to put the oil.. and I showed him told him about NAXJA and such.. he had the full length Surfco rack on it too... goofy on a stocker

the longer rack was part of my reason for wanting a 97-98(i think) :D, was able to put my lights where i wanted them that way.

Nah, he probably got the leftovers from 98, my 98 has the full length rails too and it's an SE that I upgraded to a sport with factory skids and other stuff minus the power crap accessories.. Jeep probably figured they could save a couple of pennies by shortening it.

i did some looking into this a while back and it didnt seem to have any real pattern to specific trim packages or years so i pretty much gave up... i also saw variances in the ridge patterns on the roof that matched the racks.. some ran full length and some didnt.
