View Full Version : Evans Creek, *UPDATE* Aug. 27th and Sept. 9/10th

IXNAYXJ
August 15th, 2006, 13:15
There was a bunch of talk at NW Fest about doing some trips to Evans Creek in the near future, so I thought I'd post up these opportunities:

Small run being planned for Saturday the 26th (maybe the 27th...we'll know more soon) to Evans Creek. GI-John's got more relatives to impress, apparently.

No offense meant to anybody, but we want to keep the group small and capable/experienced enough to do a bunch of trails in a short amount of time. Last trip: (http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=90745&highlight=evans). It will be similar in scope, but we're going to do the switchback uphill.

I'm going to limit the number of rigs to no more than seven. So far We've got:

Me,
GI-John
Slacker87XJ
Mud1059
ECKSJAY (if on the 27th...?) BFH ICDS :D
2Xtreme (if on the 26th...?)

PM me if you're interested.

The Second dates are for PNW Jeep's Annual Meet and Greet. I will be going because they're a great group of people and I always enjoy meeting more of them. There will be a bunch of stuff to do, including a "newbie" run for those with little or no experience (also great for wives, if they've not been wheeling much).

Here's a link to their info page about the event. I know of at least three or four NAXJA guys who'll be there, so don't feel intimidated! :D

I should have control arm mounts welded up, too. Mine took a beating on the rocks. :DI was amazed that I didn't have more damage from the rock garden. I only came down on my "frame" rail a couple times, and dented my cat...more than it already was. Didn't hit diff-skids or (that I could tell) my LCA mounts.

Not necessarily those rocks...I damaged my mounts a while back. Also debating on rounding out the rear corners of my drop brackets so they're not so prone to hangups. Have to gusset them if I'm going to keep all this crap up, too. ;)

IXNAYXJ
August 15th, 2006, 18:16
Yup, they're enormous.

Just to warn you, while we will be going quickly, and we're not "afraid" of body-damage, nobody in the group wants to come back looking like that. We're going to be sticking to actual trails too.

Judging from your buddies we saw at Evans last time, we might be a little tame for you...like we're not going to be trying to break eachother's shit.

JasonJust to warn you, Jason, Evans is a LOT harder than the stuff at TSF that you ran, and even more than the trail we ran at Reiter. There is a very good likelihood that someone will leave with body damage, or at the very least some good scratches. It isn't as hardcore as Little Rubicon, but there are some sections that are 70% as challenging.

I'm not tring to discourage you, but your Jeep looked so clean at NWFest. :D

mud1059
August 16th, 2006, 16:39
I bid on some body damage : ) What IXNAY is trying to say is the trees are a lot closer to the trails. There are some tight spots at Evans. Also, that part on the switchbacks with that HUGE log kinda in the middle of the trail. Somebody cut a corner off then someone else winched it more out of the way. If it weren't for it being winched off, I'd advise you guys not to try it. I saw a few vehicles loose windows on that guy. I think we should be fine in that area now though.

Also ladywolf, I think by wimmin we meant "non-wheelin wimmin"

It was tight, but VERY doable. I think we have seen at least 12 rigs go by there with no issues.

mud1059
August 17th, 2006, 21:13
Probably all going down? Also, it's really dry so traction isn't going to be much of an issue without mud. If you want I'll winch the log back in your way but it's your job to bring the mud : ) No?

OOH update while I'm posting. Bumper is painted and mounted. Winch in mounted and 1/2 wired. I kinda arced it last night, I'll have it done tomorrow and the sliders...I lost the hardware (don't ask) so I need to get some more. And the TC output is here - that wil be started tomorrow as well. Last chance I had to post I saw John's meatfest idea.

Just got home and too tired to think. Not that worried about damage.

When it comes to the Jeep:
My wife might give me the "did you see this .......?"
I say "Oh well" or "Oops".
And that's it.

She's not the nagging type, because she knows I don't listen unless it has to do with something fun. My only goal before a trip to Evans were my Rock rails. They are done, lets go (if we are going on Sunday).

If you guys don't mind that I don't have a winch, I should be done and able to go. If you guys do mind then I'll have to hit you up next time. Sorry

Me
GI-John (welcome back from the field)
Slacker87XJ (with spiffy new LCAs)

On a related note, make sure to stop by PNW and check out their M&G info. Let's try to get a bunch of NAXJA guys to represent the NWC.

But it moved for the first time in 2+ months. I reseated the CPS, tire/bead, mounted all 4 tires, drivelines, mounted the extiguisher, and bent the front clip away from the alternator, and installed a headlight. to do:

From the Pierce County website:

"Due to increased fire traffic in the vicinity of the Carbon River Fire and to provide for public safety, the Carbon River Road will be temporarily closed at its junction with State Route 165.

Only residents living on the Carbon River Road will be allowed access. This will effectively block access to Coplay Lake, Summit Lake, Bearhead Trailhead, and the Carbon access to Mount Rainier National Park.

The National Park Service will issue wilderness backcountry permits at the road closure junction daily from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. while the closure is in effect.
