This is what happens when you take someone that is used to mud and puts a rock in front of him. Finesse - what the hell is that?

It's amazing it didn't break.

This is after I talked him into slowing down a bit.

Now we just gotta work on the whole 'listen to your spotter' thing. I'm tryin to break his muddy habits.

Zuks are meant to bounce over things, they're light. ;)

Locked in front but not rear?

I'm open front and limited slip in the rear. I use the brake pedal to transfer power by tapping and tapping hard in mud and ice. By using the brakes it gets the spides to spin the other way for a bit.......Just wanted to share that since I learned it a few rides back and it has worked wonders for me.

That second vid shows you learned how to takle that ledge with AT's. Why the 8.8 I hate that axle seen too many Ford guys spin the tubes and break stuff. What do you have out back a D35? I trashed 3 of them before I went to the 9"... good luck most of the guys on here don't have problems with the 8.8 though. I guess its the weight and HP thing. Nice vids by the way soemtime I'll get to Gulches but with only 88 acres to play on and it being 3 hours away it may be a while.

Stock 8.25 right now. I'm going with the 8.8 mainly because I got an excellent deal on it loaded with a detoit, 4.56s and alloy shafts. If they aren't already I guess I'll be welding the tubes up so they don't spin.

Damn dude. What A/T's do you have? Are you sure they're not street tires? Lol. Watching those videos makes me want to go burn my A/T's. Mine aren't that bad...they've got me up a pretty steep gullied out muddy hill with open diffs. It's gotta be those tires though. That almost makes me feel bad for your Jeep...it's probably not happy with those shoes...

It does great on just plain ole mud but they suck on a muddy rock. Not enough lug to grip anything. On the other hand they are great on the road and I'll be keeping these on there for the road. I've got some 34x10.50-15 LTBS on beadlocks - I only need to buy more bolts to finish them... THEN we'll see how it does.

The A/Ts would be great it it were dry...

Ghost
January 29th, 2008, 12:37
Yea the muddy rocks are slick and do not provide much grip for an AT arround here.

Let me check and see when I can get down that way... Should be some time in FEB... Are you pretty much just up for a spurt of the moment type thing? OR need some planning time? I'll pretty much play by ear and it'll be based on the weather.. I'd much rather it be somewhat dry.

Chris

PS. Also Glenn can keep the free ride... but I want the lunch..

What size tires are on that Sammy??? 35's on stock axles WILL break, likely the front first. I had a Sammy for 14 years, ended on 33's when I sold it. If he's not running a rear traction bar...tell him to get one. I went through 3 sets of springs (sprung over) before getting one..and problem solved. The Sammy is really pretty sturdy, and will take a ton of abuse. But they do break if abused with Large tires....:viking:

Yes, I certainly intend on adding a traction bar some time. It actually has Sidekick 3rds but I'm fairly sure it has stock Samurai axles. I'm new to the Samurais so I'll learn. As you can see he does abuse it. We will eventually end up breaking something.

He'll probably eventually get tired of fooling with it so It'll be mine. I'll do toy axles and coils. Right now we're just drivin it till it breaks and then upgrade. Isn't that how it's supposed to go...?

We will eventually end up breaking something.

With stock axles you will....the quickest way is to apply throttle in reverse with the front end turned hard....."POP" goes your Birfield. The Toy axles will hold up better...they are designed for a much heavier truck. I had 14 years of great wheeling with my Samurai. There is much fun to be had. Just don't need lots of room, or lots of horse power, and you will have no issues.
