I'm going to order a slip yoke eliminator for the xj from Tom Woods. He has a few options online. I have a 6 inch lift with 33" tires. I wheel it moderate about 4 rated trails at the most. I'm looking for advice on what option is the best. This will be a daily driver. any help would be nice.
Thank you.

* Super-Short Conversion with CV drive shaft using the XC or XB Slip Yoke & spline stub is $600

* Super-Short Conversion with CV drive shaft using the S Slip Yoke & spline stub is $570

* Super-Duty Conversion with CV drive shaft using the XC or XB Slip Yoke & spline stub is $575

I wouldn't worry about the super shorts. They are tailored more for those with short wheelbases or long tranny/doubler/t-case combos.

Yep, save you some money in the long run. I've got the T-flex extreme short shaft kit. It eliminates the speedo gear and uses a tone ring for the speedo. Now, I've got to buy the $200+ gizmo to calibrate.

HD SYE? What is HD? I like that price. I have a NP 242 and I need less expensive options for that.

Found this and thought it would save work and keep the slip yoke.

High Def? :D

Heavy Duty, but I don't think that price comes with a shaft while the Tom Woods price quotes do.

You don't want to save the slip yoke though. They are weak and will break fairly easy. Part of the reason to do a SYE is one...to get the bigger stronger output shaft in the Tcase and two...to get rid of the weaker slip yoke which can crack and break under stress.

...and three, aleviate the vibes that show up around 3.5" - 4" of lift. Even a heavy duty slip yoke wouldn't do that.

......And forth, if you do break you're shaft,& have to limp off the trail without it you'll lose most, if not all, of your t-case fluid:puke: !!!

Only with the earlier style transfer cases... pre 1996 I believe. My '96 had the sealed output.

The only output shaft related part I've ever seen break on a Jeep 231 was an Advanced Adapters heavy duty conversion from Tom Woods, which split the yoke in half. I've yet to see a stocker fail from anything other than a universal joint break.

I'm still an advocate of SYE's. XJ's transmit a terrible amount of drivetrain noise into the cabin, and the SYE eliminates driveline vibration. It just makes for a far more pleasant drive.

http://www.driveshaftsuperstore.com/images/blazerkit1.jpgI ran a shaft like this when I was first building my rig 10 years ago. Obviously not the same as an SYE, but it served its purpose admirably. With what I want to do with my 90 2 door, I'm considering running another one if I get any vibes. I'm not at home right now, but I have a link and a part number for the parts to make the shaft I ran. I can also post a pic of it when I had it in my rig. Personally I think it worked perfectly!

No HD (heavy-duty) options for the 242.
