mud terrain on a DD isn't the best choice, unless your idea of DD doesn't involve much road time.

i'm running 30x9.50 BFG ATs, and i love them! they're the best tire i've run yet on my xj. they're excelent on the road and in the rain. and they do pretty good off road, other than really nasty mud. i'd get that guys set of ATs if i were you, and if the price is good...

It's not the BEST choice but I drove my Ranger for 3 years with the same set of BFG M/Ts before they were crap.

BFG A/T is a great tire but they work about as well as a slick radial in the muddy crap. I HATE mud. :)

bfg mtr's great wear, driveability and superior traction in mud, rocks, sand and wet driving than any tire.

My A/T's are pretty aggressive. I climbed a pretty steep hill the other day that was covered in a snow/mud soupy mess and made it on the 2nd try. I watched another Cherokee try for 15 minutes before he gave up...he had about 1/2 worn BFG M/T's. Just sayin....I have had A/T's and M/T's on my daily driver....other than the M/T's wearing out faster, I don't really have any complaints about running M/T's.

Inexpensive AND good tire? Hmmm.... Just get some BFG MT's and be done with it!

ive got Dick Cepek FC II's on mine. they dont seem to be very well known but i like them. they dont have an a/t or m/t designation specifically, but they are more of a m/t than an a/t. ive been running them for almost 5000 miles and they are hardly worn and i have yet to get stuck because of them(ive been stuck for other reasons...stupid 3 foot deep hole).

i had a set of Hankook Dynapro M/T's on my 77 K5 last year...put about 600 miles on them and no noticeable wear at all...gonna put a set on my 89 XJ after i get the lift, lockers, and gears installed next month....im going with 33's on my XJ...mounted, balanced, and out the door for under $700

I had my 31 10.5 BFG MTs for awhile mostly road miles and with proper tire rotations(5 tire rotation) got about 70000 miles on them when I sold them to someone else.

Dayton Timberline MT's or Firestone Destination MT's

I've run them both, they are the same tire just the Dayton is less expensive.

I've had good luck with them.

I have a set of Pro Comp MTs. I went into buy the BFG MTs but the Pro Comps were buy 3 get one free so the price was right. When I go bigger they'll be BFGs though.

The Pro Comps grip pretty well on the rocks and in mud but are noisy as h3ll on the street. BFGs are quieter.

I've ran the BFG ATs(30.9.5s) for the last 3yrs on my DD '96 and they are good as long as you stay out of any serious mud. A lot of people around here are running a
MT called MudDawgs. They are a knock off of MTRs. When I get the XJ back together its getting either TruxusMTs or another set of BFG ATs. The '78 K10 has a set of TSLs on the way(old design-yes, sucks on the road-yes, perfect for SE trails-YES) . The only tires I would stay away from are the ProComp Xterrains. The 31s I had for a short time sucked bad. I even ran them backwards for a wekend to see if it helped. It didn't.They might work well on Western slickrock, but they don't like Ga/Al clay and rocks.
