ok 96 xj with an 89 xj block and 96 xj intake the serpentine belt rubs the engine block right before the elt gets to the harmonic balencer any ideas on how to fix or any help im at a loss to fix this one thanks
have you had the clutch fan and/or pulley off or loosened for any reason? i had this problem after putting that thing back on. i didnt have the pulley seated right.
The harmonic balancer is almost surely the problem based on what you describe. When it fails it "walks" toward the engine block and can grind a hole in your timing cover. Look for rubber squishing out from the inner and outer portions of the harmonic balancer pulley. Replace immediately if it is bad.
