I really hope that someone can help me with this problem. I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport (6 cyl 4.0 L). Today when I went to start it, the engine turned over but it never started. After trying it a second time the check engine light came on and where the odometer is it read "no bu5" or "no bus". The gauges don't seem to be working either. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like a fuseable link, i'd also check the ignition switch under the dash.

No buss means the computer is not running check the fuses in the PDC under the hood also.

No buss means the computer is not running check the fuses in the PDC under the hood also. That's the first reasonable bit of advice I've heard on this thread so far. The 97+ is known for the "no bus" signal, and it often comes from the connector under the dash coming loose. I know it was discussed just a few days ago; it's very likely that RichP contributed on that thread if that helps narrow your search a bit.

Thanks to everyone for their help. After much searching, I had to have it towed to the dealer. They found that the crank position sensor (CPS) was fried and it cost $360 to replace it. Not only that, I now have to take it back because they messed up my air conditioning.
