I found a I6 out of a 98 grand cherokee in a junkyard, will it fit in my 96 XJ sport? Just want to make sure before I buy it. He wants 325 for it, it runs and he said it does not pass inspection he will give a full refund. IE cracked head or block. It was too muddy at the yard to get a casting number.
I'm going to do a new 4.0 or maybe a stroker.

It should definietley fit both are OBD-II. Price is a little high though, but not bad.

I agree the price is a little high, but it inclueds delivery to the shop and a "warantee" or sorts that it is a rebuildable engine.

Thanks for the help

What do you think is a fair price for a running 4.0, Its worth mentioning that everything attached to it comes with it. intake, fuel rail, injectors, alternator and such. When told him what I was going to do with it he said we might be able to work out a deal of sorts.

$750 up here, cheapest I could find in the area, or able to deliver.
Seems wreckers up here plate their parts with invisible gold. $750 for D30 too.

The only differance is the temp gauge sending unit.96 is seperate at the back of the head.98 is incorporated into the coolant sensor.you can drill and tap the thermostat housing and extend the wire and put the 96 sending unit in it.

The junker to stroker website says that the 0631 head was used in the 96 to 98's. It seems that any used autoparts in CT are way overpriced.

The head may carry the same number, but it isn't drilled for the sensor,if it an original 98 head.96 was the last year for the seperate sensor

Got it today, 250 for the engine and whatever is stuck to it after the tranny is unbolted and the "warantee". He will deliver it monday or tuesday. I will drill and tap the back of the head for the temp sensor. Thanks for your quick responces.
