Diesel Exhaust Brakes (Mopar)

We have noted that your vehicle is subject to 1 outstanding recall:

A05 JEEP BRAKE ROTORS (INTL ONLY)

Please contact your local Chrysler dealership to have this recall
completed on your vehicle at no cost to you.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to review this matter with you.

Is anyone on the forum familiar with:

European Equipment Group
Rubicon Group
MOPAR Third Row Cargo Bins w/Table :exclamati
Diesel Exhaust Brakes (Mopar)

I think I have a handle on the others but I'd appreciate any additional information you care to offer.

Thank you,

Jeff

who knew, there really IS a Jeep Cherokee Rubicon edition!

I would love to have a diesel one with exhaust brake to boot!

Dunno if you want to do the rotor recall or not. The rotors warp fast.

Considering you aren't using the origional rotors.

I took care of that recall and the rotors are now warped.

Also there should be another recall for adding a brake-shift interlock. Unless it was already done on your Jeep.

Looks like you got a limited slip in the rear = nice.

I am pretty sure that MARKET HOMOLOGATION simply means that the manufacturer is stating that the product meets the local standards for safety and environmental impact in the country/region it is being exported to...
It looks like the original poster is in Paris, France....

Thats cool. Id like ot have that for my Jeep. party1:

You are right, Chrysler must have recycled some of its codes. This is a 1992 (build date) Cherokee Limited. It came with the 15" Gold Lace alloy wheels. When I bought the Jeep from the PO it still had one of the original Goodyear tires mounted on the spare rim. The laws of physics prevail... it was a 225/75-15.

I bought this Jeep in Paris but as far as I can tell, it might actually be a German spec model. All of the operational decals (on top of the visor for example) are in German. Then again, who knows?

I had a front end brake melt-down last year (rainy Friday night, rush hour Paris traffic, the wife and both kids in the Jeep with me = big fun) and I've already replaced the calipers, rotors and hoses. Hmmm, I wonder I Chrysler will reimburse me for the cost of those repairs?

BTW, if you've never seen a rotor after a caliper locks up on it and turn it day-glow orange, take a look at this:

Geeze it looks like the outer part of the rotor was cracking and about to seperate from the center part of the rotor:wow:
Now I guess we know what that rotor recall was for.

I once had a disk separate from the hub just like that (rust on a 20 year old Mercedes rotor), and it was very scary. Hit the pedal, and "POP," no change in pedal (since it's still gripping the rotor), but suddenly the thing veers toward the ditch. Long slow drive home!

when i was 16 and taking my drivers test, my rotor seprated on me... i can't beleve i failed! i got a redo, with the recall notice from the dealer. that is awesome, i have used a broadcast code sheet and a fender tag to decode the basics on my '92.

Chrysler has been known to reuse option codes so the original code may not match up to the actual options on the list.

They do reassign the "sales codes" and that is why it shows some things that don't make sense.

If your nice any dealer can run a equipment sheet.

I didn't know you fail when there's a vehicle malfunction?

That's kind of......unfair.

It's like failing a range test because your rifle jams.

Ah yes... Performing an unannounced 'Bat-Turn' on the freeway. Gotta' love it!

Like you, I had a long, slow ride home (complete with play-by-play color commentary by my wife). This initiated an absolutely wonderful series of cascade failures:

1. Caliper locks up on rotor
2. Long (15 mile) slow drive home causes rotor to overheat (grinding away remaining break pad material)
3. Overheating rotor trashes caliper, pads and hose
4. Complete loss of breaking ability on one front corner forces other side to handle total font breaking load
5. Repeat steps 1, 2 & 3

The heat generated was so great that looking at the rotors was like looking at a bright orange x-ray. I could see the outline of the vent structures!!!

Now for he best part of all: Jeeps are IMPORT cars in France. Anyone want to guess how much replacement parts and service cost over here? (Clue: DAIMLER-Chrysler. Can you say Mercedes-Benz?)

They wont be able to pull your build sheet if your Jeep is older than an 87 and 87 could be iffy!
