ok, i have worn out 4.5 re springs for the rear, im thinking of getting the v6 coils, i assume my re 4.5 springs have settled to 4, i got them used for free, what i need to know is do i use the top of the strut or make the flat plate or just stick them in? i haul a good amount of tools/junk in the back along with a 33" spare on the roof and i just want it to sit close to being level or even a little high in the front to compensate for a winch in the future. i have gathered alot of good info here but i just wanted to make sure im doing this right as i have gotten some mixed answers!!!!
Huh? Near as I can tell, the thread is talking about T-Bird coils, and you're talking about RE rear leafs. Are you going to link the rear and use T-bird springs...?

Add a spacer if you need more lift in front. It's not that hard.

no i have 4.5 re rears but i have stock fronts with the 2 inch spacer. i just got the rears the other day for free, they had a broken leaf but i made a bastard pack out of them, now i want to lift the front up more but im unsure on which setup will get around 4 inches of lift, i figured out that the v6 t bird coils sound like the way to go, im just unsure of how to mate them to the body of my xj to get the 4 inches (or a little extra) of lift, the t bird springs are bigger round than stock on top

Since the TBird spring is only a 1/2 inch taller than the stock spring most of the lift comes at the expense of articulation.
Sounds and looks like a really shitty option.

You can get 3-4.5 lift coils for $100 or less, and they drop right in (no stupid spring pad fab BS. If you can afford car insurance, you can afford springs.

x2, Save up a little and do it right. If you're patient, you can probably find some used ones for cheap.

Matt is correct. This should be in the tech forum.

If you don't get an answer in the tech forum that you like, you might want to re-read your question. IT IS TOTALLY CONFUSING.

Many of us will not spend the time to anser a question if we don't understand the question ;)

Why mess with T-bird coils when you can any lift you want in the front of a XJ with XJ coils between stock and at least 9".

Somethings you can do "on the cheap" other things don't make any sense.

While on the subject your rear spring setup is questionable at best. I sure hope you made bastard packs out of both setups. If you did them ANY differently you'll have different spring rates on each side and a goofy lean to your rig. There's times to halfass it and there's times not to. Take the advice in your avatar.

my rears are 4.5 that had a cracked leaf on one side, i just replaced the broken leaf in the pack with one of my stock ones, sits level and gave me around 4+ inches of lift, now i just need springs for the front, i was thinking about the t bird coils but im just going to join the "Dump All My Money Into My Jeep" club and buy some actual lift springs when i can afford it. end of story.

Not to bring up a dead thread.. But my experience with a highway lift... Waste of time but, I lifted mine with full size older model f-250 front coils. FREE. got me around 4.5. Re drilled the t-bar and Jeep top leaf with 3/4 ton chevy lower and mix match the pack. yota rear shocks with some bushing work. all it cost was a 5.99 for a rancho center pin and 5.99 for front shock extensions... The coil seated just fine.. I ran this for 2 weeks and then mix and matched a much better 4.5 inch setup for around 50 off craigslist.. The $12 lift didn't have much flex in the front, but it looked okay. Its a phase. I would just get some 50 coils on craigslist. Do it right the first time.
