But he survived...

NEWPORT, DELAWARE - December 31, 2007 -- A man was thrown from his Jeep, and then run over by a tractor trailer, but he is going to be okay.

Police said a 1995 Jeep Cherokee lost control at 2:30 Monday morning while traveling southbound on I-495, approaching the Route 141 off ramp.

The driver, 27-year-old James Stirparo of Shipley Road, was ejected. He landed in the center lane of travel of southbound I-495.

Several witnesses stopped to assist. As those drivers pulled off onto the shoulder and ran toward Mr. Stirparo, a tractor-trailer was approaching the scene.

Stirparo was attempting to get up to his knees when the truck then passed directly over top of him, somehow missing Stirparo entirely.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene and transported Stirparo to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted with a head injury. He was last listed in stable condition.

The tractor-trailer continued south and has not been located. The incident happened so fast, no one obtained any information about the rig.

Troopers cited Stirparo with DUI, expired tags and failure to have insurance identification.

Being a firefighter for 7 years, I know this could've ended MUCH worse... 80%+ of our ejections end in fatalities. PLEASE wear your seatbelts & DO NOT drink and drive!!!!!

This guy probably has no idea he ran over some drunken idiot, and will probably read this in the paper and contemplate what he should do about it, if anything; considering he never hit anyone, or anything. Amazing story! Thanks for posting.

Wanna bet? Unless it was the trailer that ran over the guy and he didn't see it....he knew.

I've hit squirls and rabbits and you feel it pretty good. I KNOW you would feel a human.

The truck drove over him, it didn't actually hit him.

I'm thinking the driver was looking at the wreck, and may not have noticed the driver proned out in the lane ahead of him. I agree that if the truck struck him, then the driver would have felt it, but the article did mention that the truck missed the guy entirely, so maybe I should bet ya. How about a Guinness on tap if we should ever cross paths.

Something similar happened in Anderson about a month ago.

Some women was driving down the interstate in her convertible when it started raining. She pulled off the side and got out to put up the top. He small dog, which was riding with her, jumped out and ran into the road. Of course, she chased after it and got hit by a semi, which didn't slow down a bit and kept on going. After the truck hit her 3 other vehicles ran over what was left. All 3 of them pulled over but all 3 had no idea what they hit. One lady was upset on the phone with 911 and said that her car smelled like burning meat... That must have been horrible. The report said the body was mutilated. That guy was lucky.

Probably not anything more than a e wheeler like you guys. You don't gain expert driving experiance by not pushing you limits in your Jeep on a regular basis. How many oganized off road runs have yall done in the last 3 months??? Sorry for the rant but actual participation on dirt seems low aroud here. Look here:

That forum shows crap. Scour the chapters and get back to us...or better yet, follow each member around. :)

Tell us of your organized run participation. Us old-salt e-wheelers would love to hear stories of the real world. :owl:

Ok, so the news article said that the guy was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol. If the guy was DUI, then that would be the cause of this accident, and not some guy trying to gain expert driving experience. Unless you are encouraging folks to drive drunk, your comment that he was just like any of us; and the comment that experience is gained from pushing your limits, is foolish. I will gain my experience driving sober, and not while driving intoxicated. And for your information, expert driving experience is gained by knowing your driving limits, the capabilities of your vehicle, and an understanding of the physics involved, and not by exceeding them.
