IAC question

I've been suffering from an overly high idle on my '90 Cherokee (4.0 5 spd). I pulled the throttle body to clean the IAC and noticed that the bullet nose of the IAC is a good 1/4" from the opening. Is this right? It seems a long ways out to do much regulating.

It should reset to -0- everytime you turn the key off. Listen for a buzzing sound that lasts for 3 seconds or so. If you don't hear it try a new power latch relay.
