It happened at my parent's house while I was in Co. Apparently the news story is very inaccurate as well. The 13 year old has a broken jaw, the 17 year old was uninjured.

The 17 year old was hired to help around the house. He showed up with help that day, so my dad put them to work. They were supposed to be picking up leaves and loading them into a trailer pulled behind the tractor while my dad was moving firewood at the house. Apparently for some unknown reason they went next door (my parents own that land too) my dad assumed that they were going to fill water troughs and clean up around the barn. A few minutes later the older boy comes back on the tractor with the 13 year old in the trailer badly injured. 911 was called etc. 17 year olds story is that the 13 year old was driving, fell off, and ran himself over.

I know the 17 year old is lying, but I don't know wether it makes any difference.
1.The 13 year old did not have permission to be operating the tractor.
2. the trailer was attacthed to a ball which was welded onto a box-blade.
3. If the 13 year old had been driving, I don't know how he would have fallen off. and I have driven that tractor for over 20 years.
4. If the 13 year old was indeed driving and fell off and ran himself over he would be dead. Run over by tractor+ box blade + trailer= crushed, mauled then run over by a light trailer.
5. The nature of the 13 year olds injuries tell me that he was standing on the tongue of the trailer, slipped off, busted his jaw on the box blade and was run over by the trailer.
6. The 17 year old is probably lying because they were doing something wrong and don't want to get in trouble.

Luckily as of now everyone will live.

I always love the background of these stories, when the story seems so unlikely.

Air lifted, damn. betcha he wont do that again

I think you're right about where he was standing and catching somthing in the land .

I agree with your assumptions of what really happened.
A friend of mine in high schol fell onto the tongue of a tractor when he triped in the field, ended up with a torn upper lip and a fractured jaw. Sounds familiar.
