Yup, traded in the Ram. I have a 250 mile commute weekly commute NOT including anything after work or even weekends. As much as I loved my truck, I had to face reality and not looking back. I get a GM discount + rebate on an new 06 Chevy Cobalt SS 2.4L. 25/32 MPG. The truck got 14/16 but sometimes in the high 12's or 13's due to my city driving in Indy. I still have the XJ of course.
There was a time when I thought I wouldn't let gas prices affect me and I do well at my job, but enough was enough. :tear:

Im gonna do the same. I found a tercel for super cheap and it, gets insanely good gas milage. I have no shame, gas prices suck yo.
My XJ will just be a weekend warrior. Now if we could just invent/find a free source of fuel without the goverment offing us.

I bought that truck in 03, gas cost $1.35/gal. NOT EVEN A FACTOR! I tried wittling away at the budget on what I can trim down and what not and being single, the dollar can only go so far. I couldn't sacrifice myself anymore just to be cool, lol! Good luck to everyone, because I feel $4 by end of year(not including California, lol).

Too bad about the ram Bill...
I test drove one of those cars last year before the Commander. With the supercharger, it hauled ass!
Good looking car.

smart!
its a hard thing to have to do, but clearly the most logical decision.

NEVER! Although the XJ is sidelined while I get a new track bar.
I don't regret it. I was ALMOST thinking if I'm gonna buy new, might as well buy that Wrangler I always wanted, but I know after the newness wore off, I'd be bitching about gas prices and owe more on that then the Cobalt. Yep, no regrets here.
25/32 MPG Adam-it's the NON-Super Charged, but still pretty powerful at 172HP. Gonna look into a K-N for it.

i'm still dd'n my truck, only because my commute is only like 10 miles. but the wife has a longer commute and we sold her TJ and we're getting a honda.

I'm driving my wife's Focus in order to save myself from the gas prices. I still pay $100 a week in gas.
BTW, I sell Chevy's out here and really like the new Cobalts. My plan is to buy a SS Sedan once I start makin money at this sales gig. Then eventually turbo it since its got the bigger engine as compared to the SS Supercharged. Then when the Camaro comes out the Cobalt will become my wife's, the Focus will become a "Baja" Focus, and I'll buy a Camaro. :D

i bought a subaru to offset my gas prices.....and they are still thru the roof cuz of the 4ltr boxr engine in the baja. my XJ was gettin horrid gas mileage, and with all the miles i was driving a week, i couldnt afford it. lo and behold a year later i buy another one....this time with intentions on lifting it and turning it into a cool rig. so we'll see how this goes before something else happens to set me back.
btw....subaru's are cool, and i wouldnt trade my baja....cept to get one with the turbo lol.

My ride gets terrible gas mileage, but it's paid for. It does not seem very economical to me to make payments and full coverage insurance. Yes, the cost of fuel is high but it's still cheaper than those monthly payments.

Gas is a bunch of BULL SHIT! Glad I've only got a 3 mile commute to work. I even take the long way around just to let it warm up a bit more.

They make an SS without the supercharger?? What's up with that? I thought the SC made it the SS. Anyway, I drove a basemodel Cobalt when I was out in Cali...BRIGHT yellow. It was a fun little car, and I bet it is pretty peppy with manual. I would be hessitant about reliability though.

You did the right thing. I traded my '01 Ram (for an XJ) when my second son was born - the regular cab just wasn't going to cut it anymore. I had a heavy foot and a 5.9L engine, I was happy to get 10mpg. While I miss the truck from time to time, I'm glad I did it.
ps. My uncle bought a Cobalt when they first came out. He's had no problems with it.

I got rid of my 97 ram 1500 last year. I loved the truck but hated the way it guzzled gas
