I have a freind with a YJ and she broke the bracket on the rear axle. She has Leaf springs in the back. Do YJ's really need a rear Panard bar?

You mean the rear track bar?
Nah,she don't need it....doesn't need the front one either. Doesn't need a sway bar either. The ride will get a little sloppy, but nothing like an XJ.

TrackBar= Jeep terminology for Panhard
Panhard= everyother manufactor terminology for TrackBar.

Although Jeep used panhard a lot as well - The rear track bar on a YJ is called a panhard bar in the FSM (for 1989 at least).

Stupid question of the day: Not only do I not see a need for a "Panhard rod" as we old school fogies raised on real French solidaxle Peugeots call it, but since it swings in an arc, albeit a very mild arc, when used with leaf springs, wouldn't it stress either the springs or the rod?

Yep.
Take it off. Mine broke on my YJ too. I think it is an inherent weak spot.

This thread reminds me of the light bulb in a forum thing.
Does anyone know what Im talking about? Has numbers and different things about a forum. Something along the lines of:
4 users say yes
3 users say no
5 users say that the grammer is wrong on 2 of the users posts
4 "experts" say that the terminology is wrong and that its called something else....
:twak:
edit: Found it:
