Should be a REAL simple one.

Whenever in 4HI for a while...the little light on my dash (4X4 indicator, looks like a 4WD drivetrain) disappears...just turns off. No reason why, no warning nothing.

Yes this has left me in the dark that 4WD was still 'on', going from snow to pavement a few times. If I play with the shifter the light sometimes comes back on. Sometimes doesn't.

Sounds like the linkage might need adjusted.

W need to know what year your XJ is. There is a switch on the transfercase that turns the light on. It may need to be checked for loose connections, cleaned or replaced.

Thats the info I was looking for. I've looked around but haven't really found anything.
