My girlfriend is looking into buying a 2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5I. We found one we have been driving for a few days but we have not signed all the papers yet so it is not final. The dealership wants $15,500 for it with 10,000 miles left on the bumper to bumper warrenty and a 100,000 mile powertrain warrenty. There appears to be absolutely no body work done to this car and it is in near perfect condition. The only flaw I can find is some overspray paint that is a dark color on the drivers side door. Does this sound a little high to you? It was stickered at $18,000. I have to make the decison by Sundaty or the car is ours. I love the car but want to make sure I am not getting ripped off, I have done my research but want other opinions. Thanks

Yeah it dosn't sound to bad to me either, the car is great and a blast to drive. It is a 4 speed auto and has a very suprising amount of torque. I think flooring it from a stop it would easily take an XJ. I think the price is good but I am not to happy about the overspray paint on the drivers door. I am going to try and get some money off for the overspray on the door if I can. If not and I decide it is still a good deal I bet I can getit off some how.

I test drove a 5 speed but the pedals are too close together for my size 13 feet to manipulate them successfully with 95% of my shoes.
It holds the corners really well, but off the line it didn't really feel exceptionally quick, granted it was a 2003, but it just doesn't feel any faster than my XJ.
They are nice cars, reliable and have a very loyal following. I would look up any TSB's and recalls just to be safe and get them taken care of by the dealer if there are any before you sign the papers.
Good Luck.

Good Luck. Cool, I already look into any recalls and eveything is good with the car. I am not sure if it was 2006 or 2005 but one of those years they gave the car more power with variable valve lift and I guess the automatic trannys take off quicker from a stop than the 5 speeds. I am sure you could get the 5 speed to launch hard to but it would be violently.

The over-spray can easily be buffed out

They're very nice machines. Get a WRX or an STi if you can afford it, but even the naturally-aspirated ones are a lot of fun. The newer 2.5 is a great little motor, and they're exceptionally easy to work on.

Well we are going to end up keeping it. I took the overspray off with my credit card and didn't leave a single scratch. We washed it and I used ICE paint cleaner/conditoner then the synthetic wax. It looks real sharp and is Bright Red, I am looking into stereo stuff for it, a nice filter or cold air intake, and the factory fog lights. I will post a picture tomorrow of it hopefully. I am selling my 97 cherokee country bright red, 30 BFG A/T's, bumper, budget boost, and nice stereo. No need for it anymore.

We took it up in the snow the first full day we owned it. It did good for a car but the tires suck in the snow and ice. I just put 31 inch Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revo tires on my cherokee and it felt like it hooked up way harder than the Subaru did. The only legit complaint I have found online about the car was the tires are horrible in the ice and snow, I would second that!

Put some better tires on it. You don't need AT's or anything like that...just a good tire. I had Yoko Avid T4's on my '03 WRX. I had that thing in the snow every chance I got. A friend and I would drive our Suby's up to the snow in NC whenever they would get it for about 2 years. We bit off more than we could chew on 2 seperate occasions.

February 2006, we drove up on a Friday night and we were heading to Boone, NC in a snowstorm that was worse than expected. We got about half way and had to get off the highway because they gave up plowing with about 8" on the highways and over a foot on the ground. We were the only ones out there...well, there were some people in the ditches. It was alot of fun. Wait till you do a snow doughnut in that thing. (Just don't turn the wheel all the way to lock...you'll blow the power steering out.) It is so much fun...I'll see if I can find some pics of that thing hauling tail through 12" of snow!!! Have fun!
