nightfoam
November 21st, 2007, 16:42
So, on December 15th, I'll be leading a run up into the Goat Mt area of the MHNF to cut down Christmas trees. This is a run organized on PNWoutdoors.net
Anybody who wants to join in is welcome to come. The tentative plan is to meet at the Estacada Ranger station at 9am so everybody can get their tree cutting permits.
I'll be running up there this weekend to scout out trees so we can spend more time playing in the snow during the actual event. If you have any questions PM me, also if you need my # for day of trip info.

Ahhh damnit. I'm out. If it were like saturday or something I'd be in there like swimwear, but I didn't get a chance to work on my pile of metal and mud sitting in the driveway today or yesterday.
Gotta go over the vacuum lines to the front diff and see why its not workin.
I'm still in for the actual tree run, though. I might even bring my sister. Gotta go over the vacuum lines to the front diff and see why its not workin.

Alright, tree run...
December 15th. Meeting point is the Estacada Ranger Station, Hwy 224 just West of Estacada at 9am with departure by 9:30.
Plan is to run up Hwy 224 along the Clackamas River to Lazy Bend where we'll take NF 45 up into the mountains. There are a couple of good areas of trees but there was a fair amount of snow on the day after Thansgiving so you'll want 4x4.
I plan on bringing my bow saw for cutting down trees but if you've got a chainsaw, you're more than welcome.
I'll have my cell on me 853-0371 and we'll be working on CB channel 24 plus I'll probably monitor the area ch 11.
Hope to see you there and if you can RSVP, it'd be appreciated.

I'll throw out a tentative for this.
Only problem is how do you get a tree home with a XJ? Not having a rack for tie downs presents another challenge as well. Im getting a mental picture of it letting go somewhere over 205 bridge. :sad1:

Thats one way... or a ropes through the doors. you can put a blanket on the roof if scratches bother you.
I'm gonna cheat and put my tree in the back of my mom's truck hehe

Haha, scratches? what are scratches? All i know about are gashes and scrapes.....
We just bought a '84 f150 4x4 with a 300 straight six. I'd be taking that, except theres chunks missing outta the flex plate. :smsoap:

Please count us in - althought our Ft Lewis Riding Club X-mas prty is on the same day - I like to crunch time - since hubby isnt here to do it for me and STRESS DOES GOOD:helpme: - HA HA. The last snow run Becca and I joined - was a flippin blast. I imagine this would be just as fun! I would like a co-pilot, would be fun to get out of this bleepin rain. Even my horse is sayin " enough already!" Matt or Erik PLEASE inform me on what I might need to do this successully and to share with 'GI-JOHN' what fun we can show him next year! ( and what I have learned to be more safety consious)?

Alright, so what i'm seeing is: 89xj4dr, mojojojo, bloodtype_jeep, 92CherokeeSport, WheelinJR, juniorXJ, torx, Luckys_Lady, & wokkerk. Plus myself, my buddy in his tacoma, another Toyota fellow and my mom in her truck. Sounds like a pretty big turnout :yelclap:
Funny thing I found out a few days ago is that the 2 Big Broncos group is also going on a christmas tree run up that way, only an hour earlier. Sounds pretty busy up there, guess cause its the last weekend to get trees.

What did you do?
rapped it up pretty high to get around someone on the road, and thought i blew a headgasket. that wasnt the problem, neither was the water pump or the t-stat that was due for a replacement. i had a huge hole in one of the heater hoses. got a new hose and fixed it.
its all good now. NOT.
drove three blocks to spend 40 bucks on supplies to build something that would cost me 50 bucks to buy (thought it was gonna be cheaper... guess not), went into the store, came back out, HUGE puddle under my jeep. drove back home, temp gauge reading OVER the red, not in but OVER.
still have no clue what it is.

9AM Estacada Ranger Station (Hwy 212 -> Hwy 224 -> Estacada)
Tree permits are $5 and can be bought there the day of the trip.

I know but this it technically still a BackroadDriversNorthwest (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/BackroadDrivers/) trip and since I've announced this there as 24, I guess I'll have to leave it. Unless you REALLY want me to change it, I can make things change... I'd kinda like to leave it the same tho....
BTW you can get regular for $2.89 at the Space Age on 212 west of the 224 interchange if you're interested. I'm not plugging it for any reason, just info if you want it.

Well I just got home (9:00). Had a very eventful drive home.
1) The dude at the Chevron could'nt get the compressor going. I'm thinking Mike had something to do with it. I ended up using my little 12V compressor. After 25 minutes I was on the road.
2) I was sitting at a red light in Vancouver, and witnessed an accident right next to me. Drunk driver rearended a 16yo girl. I took down the guys info and stayed on scene until her parents showed up. The guy was TRASHED! :twak:
I only took four picturs today. If any are good I'll post them later.

That is absofawkinglutely retarded.
That builds so much heat in the tire. It DESTROYS the cords, and could even lead to a blowout. If you have a sidewall failure on the trail, accredit it to that.
Dumb, just dumb.
Glad you had fun on the run.
