I tried searching for this info but was unsuccessful. I have a 92 XJ which I believe came with the 260X u-joints. I think Jeep went to the 297X in the later half of 95, is this correct? I want to swap out the 260 shafts for some later 297 shafts. Can I use shafts from either a later XJ or from a TJ and is there anything else needed for the swap? Thanks, Mike

if you get one with abs, you dont have to worry about the year, otherwise its 95

make sure spline counts are the same and i do belive that none of the ABS models came with vac discos. But yes the ABS equiped rigs used the 297 joints............. thats why i bought one and swapped out the ABS unit. LOL
on the front the factory dana 30 never changed spline counts they should be all 27

Front Axles
Dana 30 high pinion - reverse cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear. Used 84-99, some axles through 91 are vacuum disconnect, 92+ are non-disconnect. 89-95 with ABS have 5-297x u-joints, all 95+ have 5-297x u-joints, all others have 5-260x u-joints.

Dana 30 low pinion - standard cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear, 5-297x u-joints - used 00-01

Thanks, that is great info. Now are TJ and XJ 95+ shafts the same? It would open up availability if I could use 95+ XJ shafts or TJ shafts to replace my 92 non ABS, non disco 260X shafts. Are any other mods necessary? Thanks for the help.

to replace the long side of a disco shaft you must get a seal kit from warn...i dont remeber the part number but it works great
