The TJ's NP231 are clocked up more, I forgot how much, but more than needed for a XJ.

I found a smoking good deal on a NP231 from a TJ with a SYE, should I keep the tcase or swap the SYE into my 231?

clearance? how would I do that? its the same t-case, just pointed up a small bit.

i think he means that if it clocked up more, the drivers side wouldn't hang down as far. therefore giving you more clearance.

match up input shafts and install........... use the xj 231 shift lever on TC. #s are diffrent from wranglers to xjs to 231s to 242s

what do you mean #'s are different?

i believe the clocking is corrected when it is installed behind the cherokee's transmission...i have a yj transfercase in mine with no mods

one on the left is from the 231xj the one on the right is from the wrangler 231. Those are the numbers. Put the wrong one in and the damn thing jams and is a bitch to get out of 4low.......... I have experience LOL

What are those?

Those are shift paddles located on the tcase. They are conected to your linkage and depending on their orientation they determine what gear your tcase is in.

So as long as I swap those when i swap the cases, right?

Clocking is done at the transmission side.Just use the shift lever from your rig!
