Ok my 96 headlights do not turn on. I pull the switch out to the lights on and only the clearance lights turn on. any ideas? bad switch?

clearance lights? do u mean the parking lights?, i had a 94 that did this, swapped the switch, worked awsome, btw that switch is a prick to switch, really tight,

look underneath your airbox there is a large plug for the front light harness. Mine had a bad connection in the plug. It's easier then doing the switch and you can check for headlight voltage there.
P.S. did you check the fuses? or relay? Try your high beams also.

alright I got it, the switch was toast. I that thing was a pain to change but nothing is ever easy.
