Thank God I decided to drive the Cherokee today, which I rarely drive. Would have been right through the (lowered, extensively modified) Maxima's windshield. Didn't even see it until it flashed in front of my headlights...didn't have a chance to touch the brakes. Hit at 55mph, felt like running into a brick wall. Down he went, felt the back wheel hop over him. Luckily I didn't try to maneuver since I was in traffic at the time...

The damage...surprisingly light:

- driver's side of bumper is knocked in a few inches
- middle of bumper bottom bent back a bit
- license plate bent
- lost one of my fog light covers, which I installed LAST NIGHT

all in all, now i looks like I've been offroading a bit :grinno:

My DD took out 3 like dominos at 60 mph, my sister was driving it. She drove it to the repair shop the next morning. Only cosmetic damage no frame work or even an alignment was needed. That was 10 years ago when my dad still owned it and its still going strong with no issues.

And I was just at the junkyard yesterday......50 miles away from home....and all kinds of XJs in the yard there.

Guess I'll be going back to find a new grille (the fog lights smashed back and cracked it) and bumper, lol...

Deer: 0

Glad nobody was hurt...

I hate that for ya man. Thank God you got out with just a little damage. I just started a new job and travel between 40 and 67 miles to and from work depending on where they send me. I leave around 3am so it is pretty dark out. I fear the deer. I had one run into the side of a Caddy I had. The damn thing nearly came through the passenger side window. It all happened after I was passing him.
Anyway I figured the stock sealed beam headlights just didn't do enough for me when it came to spotting deer in the wee hours of the morning. So..... I suckered myself into buying the Sylvannia Silver Star headlights at $20 a peice. Wow. They real worked. There claim is to be as brite as a HID. They come real close without that blue effect. They are really brite white. When I drive up to another car on the Interstate their standard halogens look orange next to my beam on the road ahead.
Next I need to buy a good steel winch bumper. Your stocker seemed to do real well but with my luck I might just find that moose sized buck chasing that ass across the highway in front of me.

yep, I actually have silverstars on the XJ....but they are still dim to me since I have HID headlights and foglights on the Maxima (my daily driver), which have excellent visibiliy.

I did notice some additional damage today:

- driver's side foglight when hit backward, cracked/broke the grille in about 4 places.
- the driver's side corner of the bumper is pushed back about 3" and pushed the fender back enough to "kink" it a bit, so the fender flare is not sitting flat on it anymore. I need to get the bent bumper off to releive the pressure.

I have yet to figure out where all the bumper mountiing bolts are though....gotta look closer.

think I'm going to order the JCR prerunner bumper as an early xmas present to myself.:)

HID's are definantly brighter. I think the difference in having lights in a SUV or truck is your actually sitting higher than the beam rather than behind the beam. My 06 accord has great headlights but are standard halogens. It could also be the size of the fixture. Having more mirror gives more light.

The JCR bumpers are cool. I dont think the deer will wanna jump out in front of that one. PreRunner you might even get air on impact. LOL. Much better than the brick wall approach. I've been eyeballin' the Custom 4x4 http://www.custom4x4fabrication.com/front_xj.html
Winch Bumpers for myself. I should get one sooner than later, but got too many other things to buy.

nice....

it looks like for the time being I'm just going to get a replacement bumper from quadratec, since they're dirt cheap. Myabe get that JCR setup in the spring...I have to spend money on my classic cars right now rather than the utility XJ :) The old bumper has been pulled off. WHOSE brilliant idea was it to use star-nuts on everything under there?? Regular bolts would be so much easier!
