Pick up your trash.
If you see what looks like a trash can...
It is not. Nobody puts trash cans out in the desert, certainly not the BLM. It's trash, along with anything you put in it. If you think for a second that you can put your trash somewhere that you yourself is not taking home, then you are a loser.
The wind blows in the desert. Make for damn sure your trash isn't with it.
Keep your trash with you at all times. Make sure it leaves with you.
Also...
Do not bring any wood pallets of any kind, nor any wood from pallets.
Thanks!

That's a good trashy message!
Actually, it's a good habit to get into no matter where you wheel!
Pack it in, pack it out!

This cant be more true. I hunt in the desert quite often and cant begin to tell you how many oil barrels i see out there all shot up and the morons who think those are designated trash cans and leave their shit piled up to the top. The best is, when the "trash can" is full, they leave their garbage next to it, like a trash truck is gonna come through and clean up their mess. Its your trash, you keep it. You brought it, you take it.

And another thing thats irritating to me, even as a smoker myself:
Don't toss your cigarette butts on the trail. Put them in your empty soda can or water bottle...or here's a good idea...use your ashtray.

You understand completely Mike. Most everyone can see how rediculous that situation is.
This is a good group, and I see alot of people posting about how involved, how conscious of the issues, how responsible they are. If that's the fact, and you read this thread, disregard. It's nothing you don't already know, and I'm not addressing you.
But I also know what I've seen, and had to do. So there's more than just a few people here that don't get it. Get it this time.

I'm going to have a trash can out there for recyclables, glass and plastic bottles, and aluminum cans.
Please don't throw your glass bottles into the fire.
Unless they are Sobe bottles.:flame:

And when you have to open up your diff, don't leave your old oil in a dripping plastic bag like those ass monkeys did last week in calico.
So who is bringing spill kits?

Coming from backpacking to Jeeps... I don't get it. Why isn't pack it in, pack it out common sense? Why do people need to be told this? I'm constantly picking on people who just never gave it a thought... and wonder why I have to. I don't have to tell people not to throw their trash in their neighbor's pool, or to put the underwear on before the pants.
On another note: is the pallet thing cause of the nails?

Thats what I've heard. Beaches don't allow them anymore for bon-fires because of the nails. I've heard of some groups using a giant magnet to pick up the remains though.

I've heard of some groups using a giant magnet to pick up the remains though. we have alot of kids in our group that goes to glamis every year, i set em loose over the whole area we stake out with a big speaker magnet. while the adults set up camp the kids drag the magnet around and pick up all the nails in the sand. last year they probably had 70 or 80 nails out of a 30x30 camp. it sucks when you run over one and lose some air in your tire, but it REALLY sucks when your kid comes crying up to you with a burnt up rusty nail sticking out of the bottom of thier shoe :nono:

Yup.
Sucks to have to replace a $200 tire or have to go get a tetanus shot.

for humanity sakes the fire works and sobe bombs are just dumb ideas so can we have one outing with out the minority of the group acting like a moron. last year we had 3 instances I know of where people were walking by a fire and a damn sobe bomb went off dangerously close and I personally found 2 bottle rockets in the back of my truck. Thus is why I refuse to camp in main camp this year.

You carry everything on the trail. You're jeep must be 8000lbs loaded. :) If the kitchen sink in my RV breaks, I'm sure you'll have a spare. :)

I was gonna have to hurt you!
I will also have a trash can available. I'm not that anal. I don't care about keeping recyclables seperate. I let the trash company do that. but I will have a 30 gallon trash can along with extra bags. I'll keep it near the beer. I aint hauling everyone elses crap away so please don't clean your jeeps out in my trash... wait till you get home. Or put it in the back of Mike G's jeep...

Costco sells 45 gallon heavy duty trash bags. They work great camping and dont break easily. If you are at camp and need an extra, just ask me.

Not a bad idea. While I've done my share of Sobe bombs, it makes sense to not do them in the main campfire when so many people are sitting there and milling around visiting. There are other times with smaller groups when that activity would be more appropriate. Agreed.
I also am concerned about reckless use of fireworks. Putting bottle rockets in the fire is dangerous, and someone could get hurt. I would hate to be held liable, or the SoCal chapter of NAXJA held liable for someone getting hurt from an errant bottle rocket. I don't have a problem with shooting off fireworks, but let's keep them out of the campfire.
And for heaven's sake I hope we don't have to tell people to haul out their own trash. We haven't had to in the past, camp has been clean when we all left.

Since I am guilty of so many Sobe Bombs. I will refrain. at least till later at night when the chaotic crowd has gone away. Not saying I won't do any at all. but I promise to tone it way down.
Of course if I am on the trail, then I won't be so inclined to find fun things to do around camp...

I grew up riding & racing JV for 30+years now. I grew up w/the simple ethic take more trash out than what you take in from good ole' dad! My girls are growing up riding out there too & I get so frustrated seeing the tires, shotgun shells & trash just left there by clowns. I let my girls get chore money for collecting camp trash to take w/us when we leave. I want JV open for the grandkids, unfortunately too many people don't see the writing on the wall & refuse to use simple trail ethics.
