Hey gang,
Just wondering if there are plans or if anyone would like to help plan a chapter party. I missed last years party, so I am hoping there is one this year.

We haven't started to organize it (yet).

I was just talking to Robert about this. If we plan on doing one this year, we need to start organizing it now since holiday vacations might conflict and we need to pick a date and place.

If we continue on the tradition of Fuddruckers, it won't matter other than a date.
They refuse to put tables together for us and block off a section for us even after they told us they would be prepared for us. The other issue I had was getting a solid seat count to give them (we had a lot of people show last year!!)
On the other hand, Fuddruckers was nice because we could 1) park, 2) show up when we wanted to, 3) not worry about some crazy commitment of food or 4) have to pay some retarded 20% mandatory gratuity.
We could always do Sushi at my family's restaurant. They don't open until 4 on Sunday so we could do a 12-4 thing one Sunday. :dunno: (just a possible suggestion) The wives do tend to show up to the Sushi bar though.

Kinda BS that Fud's refused to do what they said they would

Yeah,
They were not very organized either (management wise). I think they suffer from a lot of turnover.

I watched one of those 60 minutes documentaries on sushi when i was a kid, that showed the parasites people can get from it. I know in my head that its typical sensationalism, but the visuals they had still make my skin crawl to this day. Even the scent of sushi drives me up the wall.
I have no particular interest in changing my feelings on it.

I was playing a tour guide today so I didn't see this thread till now. Anyways, fuddruckers bites since they blew us off last time. Sushi has a downside as not everyone likes raw fish. Restaurants make it hard for some folks to bring kids and so on. So for this year I was looking at couple places where we could have an outdoor BBQ. I know that the time is coming near for the Xmas party, but we are also far away from it as well :) Another thing I am considering is making it a xmas/new years party as I know a lot of folks' schedule opens up just after new years. Anyways, good to see a discussion about the topic going and if anyone knows of any jeep/family friendly, big parking lot places that are somewhat central to SoCal chapter post 'em up.

It seems like there has been an interest in go-karting lately. There is a place called dromo1 ( http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=27483712&albumId=1159134) over off Katela and Main (by Angels stadium/pond) with a decent sized parking lot and an applebees across the street. The carts are gas powered and they have a nice little furnished waiting area place where you can bench race before your race. I probably would not be able to make it but it would be fun....to watch Santa walk away with a go-kart stuck on his:moon:

There's always the beach.
Kejtar
November 6th, 2007, 06:11
There's always the beach.
Beach has some big downsides for the most part:
1. Usually no roof structures in case we get caught by bad weather.
2. Also at the beach it's usually colder then a bit inland and with it being
December we do have to account for that.
3. Lastly, you can't park on most beaches and the ones you can are for the most part inconvenient (location wise).

I don't mind the sushi idea, but last time parking sucked...is the parking lot less crowded during the day?
cracker
November 6th, 2007, 07:41
Sunday during the day should be 'ok' in regards to parking.
Don't forget there is plenty of non-fish dishes there.
Again, I am not trying to plug the restaurant but it can accomodate our inconsistent, fawked up needs.

As I am sure that is a wonderful place, we are incapable of providing a good number of people attending. Finding a place where we can pay per person with no 'heads up' would be best.

Cause if you reserve a room you're not necessarily guaranteed a venue when you show up.
I know of a couple of groups that had 3-day weekend events planned there and have had the carpet pulled out from underneath their feet at the last minute.
I'm wondering when the Phoenix Club is going to be hit with a breach of contract lawsuit.
It's sad really, they've got a great facility in a good location, but their management sucks.

BUMP :dunno:
What would you like to do guys?
As a recap:
We cannot provide numbers to a restaurant to make a reservation
We cannot leave a $$$ deposit on a place
We need a place with parking
We need a place that we can pay for our food individually
Proposed Ideas:
Fuddruckers, Fullerton (CAN handle us)
Sushi, West Covina (CAN handle us)
Some pavillion in some park and we cook our own stuff (Remi's idea that could work)
Phoenix Club (bad history so NOT an option)
Let us come up with a DATE and a CONCLUSION soon.

I vote for either Sunday, December 9th or Sunday, Jan 6th around 2:00 PM.
I vote early Dec to avoid traveling and company /family Christmas things.
Either the Sushi place, Fudd's, or similar. The park/outside idea is great for warmer weather, but if you get families invovled, kids and women folks may get a little cold.....
Once the date and place is determined, I think we could also get a thread started to get an idea on headcount.....

Beef Teriyaki, Chicken Teriyaki, Yakisoba, California rolls, etc.

Anyhow, I know my $0.02 probably isn't worth a hoot, but what about El Dorado Park in Long Beach... Close enough for the OC guys.. Plenty of parking space... and I might even show up??? I think that more folks don't want the sushi place, so we should seriously find some place else.
Lots of folks like the 9th, but it coming up really fast!
Brendan - thanks for the offer, but do you REALLY want 40 XJ folks at your house? I mean, there's parking, then food, then children, then clean-up...
I talked to Remi last night a little and the park thing makes a little more sense. At a park, the kids will have the playground, where in a resturaunt smaller kid will get restless quick! also, parks should provide ample parking. The biggest issues I see with a park - weather! Though we have not seen rain in forever, it could rain or be cool. food - we will need to arrange BBQ and cook the food - not really an issue, more of a solid commitment from folks to plan accordingly, also, people would need pitch in with money and side dishes/deserts. location - looking at where folks live, it appears the best place would be in northern OC, maybe the Anaheim or Yorba Linda areas.
Finally, it may be hard to get the holiday feeling in the park!
The other thing I recommend is that the party/bbq starts around 1:00 PM on a Sunday!
comments?
park recommendations?
