power steering fittings

i have a 91 cherokee and have installed an external power steering cooler. i was wondering if anyone knew what size the fittings are for the return line as i keep blowing the hoses off my flared metal lines. i would like to put some hose barbs on to secure it a little better so has anyone put on a power steering cooler? how did you combat the high pressure? thanks
