It is time to start planning for the Sierra Chapter's Bald Mountain snow run. I know it is only October, but I need to pencil this in far in advance, as I'm sure many of you do as well.

Run is open to all.

Plan to be at the trail head Saturday, January 19, 2008. Thats Martin Luther King weekend, to allow for plenty of travel time.

This can be either a day run or a weekend run depending on feedback. I need to reserve the cabin within the next couple of weeks, if it is going to be a weekend run. Hopefully we can get the same cabin (possibly two cabins) that we rented last year. I would like to keep it as a weekend run so everyone can have a restful weekend.

If there is interest, we can take a trip around Blue Canyon Sunday morning for a little bonus fun in the quarry.

Here is the thread from last years snow run, a damn good time indeed.

P.S. For those of you that have never played boccie ball in the snow, you will not want to miss this run.

For this reason alone, you can't count me in for the weekend if theres room in a cabin.

I might try and make it pending a motor swap and getting my blower motor going. No heat would not be fun in the snow.

We are making progress. Its kinda on Rons shoulders at the moment being we are in the "design" and "program" mode for mounts, brackets, and whatnot. Moving slow, but moving. We going to be pounding on it hard the next couple weeks. Should move fast once stuff gets cut, punched, and formed. I hope.... :wierd:

I couldn't agree more. The Bald Mtn run is a great trail to run in the snow without worrying about gates being locked and trails closed for the winter. Please do not sit around and whine about a lack of available runs in your area. Step-up and plan a run for the chapter, anyone can do it, even non-members can plan runs for all of us to enjoy.

The run is free. You can head down Saturday morning and head home that night, but why?

Ben will let us know what the per person per night cabin cost will work down to as people commit, or you can find your own place in Shaver Lake or in Fresno if you want.

The cabin is split evenly between everyone that goes, we will know total cost the week before or that weekend. Last year I think it was $35 per person for the same priced cabin and around 13 people.

I believe breakfast is taken care of. The cabin is right close to Shaver, so there is a grocery store within minutes. Bring whatever your want. I might BBQ some chicken for dinner, but that really depends on the weather.

Bocce balls seem to haunt me ever since that Dusy trip. First, we bike around south SF bay and what we see in Almaden park ? Right, bocce ball field. A week after the company I work for makes some sort of a party with ... bocce balls tournament. Now we have bocce balls in snow.

Just in case, does anybody have a snow diving equipment ? I am sure balls will go 4-5 feet deep easily.

$750 for the lodge. It will be split between all that stay the night.
I will be up there around 6:30 in the evening. I will post up turn by turn directions on how to get there. It is in Shaver and close to food and Dinky Creek Rd.

The only requirments for this run are tow points, a set of snow chains (if you axles are open, it might be good idea to get a set of chains that fit your tires), warm clothes.

I will post more details in a couple of days after finals.

I'm not going for sure, as a matter of fact more like 50/50. It's gonna depend on work.

I wouldn't be staying in the cabin anyway since I live in Prather. I'd sure like to go on the run and meet you guys though.

Cool Doug, I hope you can make it.

Just watched the local news and they are calling for blizzards and "several feet of snow".

Opie, Scrappy and I went up last Saturday and a had a good time, with this much snow in the forcast we will surely have a very good time. I'm stoked.

Oh yeah and bump.

If we have 20 people come the cost of the cabin per person should be around $35 total for both nights. I will post up vehicle and safety requirements later.

Sorry Mark, I must not have completed my post this morning. I went up to Bald yesterday and there was a decent amount of snow on the ground, 4-5 feet. I plan on taking the cabin around 4pm and start digging out some parking spaces. There will not be enough parking for all the rigs, especially the tow rigs. We can park across 168 at Bobs Bait and it is just a short walk (500 feet) back to the cabin. The amount of snow on the ground has made the streets one way with little parking. Bring your own towels. There are beds for 12, and a few couches. I am bringing an air mattress to sleep on, bring bedding, if you are not sleeping in a bed. We are really close to amenities, so food and gas should not be an issue.

Willis Retreat Cabin

Shaver Lake, CA 93664

I would print a copy of the map found on the link below, as finding the cabin in that nest of cabins can be confusing.
DIRECTIONS: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=42172+Hemlock+Ln,+shaver+lake&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=N&tab=wl

The weather is going to be nice according to TWC:
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/tenday/USCA1047?from=36hr_fcst10DayLink_business

We should try to reach the trailhead no later than 9am, CB channel 4. Those of us that are staying at the cabin should start trickling to the trail head around 730ish.
If you can bring shovels and or a wooden plank, that would be great. Dress warm and DON’T FORGET YOUR SNOW CHAINS!

If you are planning not to stay in the cabin and want to meet us at the trail here are the directions
Drive up HWY 168 and turn right onto Dinky Creek Rd, just before you enter the town of Shaver Lake. Travel down Dinky Creek Rd. for about 13 miles. Here is the GPS coordinates for the trailhead:
37° 05’ 34.75” N
119° 14’ 06.56” W

I expect Andre to leave no later than 1am to be there in time to sleep :D. See you all in a few days!

My friend gave his old car to his wife parents, they live in some village. Since the roads are not paved there, it is quite dirty, so they pulled the carpet out. Now the front passenger enjoys a stream of dirty water each the car hits a pothole at speed. Must be a real pleasure.

Enjoy your ride,
Andrey
