Backfiring

I've got an 89 4.0 with a stick and it runs great most of the time. My only complaint is it loves to backfire. The only thing that is different from stock on the engine is I have no cat. Is their something I need to check or replace? I searched previous forms and nothing sounded like me.

Mine pops out the pipe too lol but it has a new cat and a flow master catback. Must be a high flow exaust thing.

i notice that both of you are from utah. therefore my conclusion is only in utah do cherokee's backfire.

Guess I better move.....

.....cause I ain't losing the Jeep. I leave for work at 5:45 in the morning and she loves to pop between 1st and 2nd gears or right in front of my neighbors house. I know it pisses him off but he hasen't said a thing. yet.
