Lol My african american neighbor just asked me If I would install his 8 inch lift on his 88 Cutlass with his "fows" (Read: 24" Rims).

I told him I'd think about it. I told him it would be at LEAST 800 bucks... he was amazed I said such a low number. He told me that a local shop told him 1800.
For one should I even contribute to such an ugly modification to a car.
Second how much should I charge this dude.

It's gunna involve upper and lower control arm replacment in the rear, very similar the the XJ's front end, and upper and lower A-arms on the front. As well as taller springs, new spindles, pitman arm and I'm sure some other things as well.

To Do or NOT to do.... that is the question.

Do it... In fact.. let me know and I'll come help, lol, tell him $1000 and give me $300.

Ive seen a ton of these done, its not rocket surgery but these guysworry to much about the wheels and not the safety of the lift.

Tell me about it... I tryed to talk him into having maybe some 3.73 gears installed and he wouldn't have any of that... "I don't need no geyas!!!" It's already got some of those stupid lil screw in coil spacer things and 22 inch rims... It needs gears with the 22s... Its gunna be terrible with 24s... If i do it Ill post up pics.

I've been asked to do a couple of these from the guys at work. I turn them down, I don't want the liability. Not worth the time to print out a waiver, I just give them the good ole' boy redneck side of me and walk away.

I appreciate car nuts of all kinds but I just don't see doing that to even a ugly old Delta 88, its just not right!

Don't do it. He lives too close and for the next three years every squeek or burnt out bulb will be your fault. Do and you might as well be married to it.

yeah... I think its a white Trooper... great scenic road... very VERY very dangerous scenic road. its like 6 feet wide, a 100ft mountain on your right and a 500 foot cliiff on your left, very curvy... with 2 way traffic.

Hey, tell ya what, since you don't seem to need the money, do the lift and send me the check...;) :D I think the whole donk fad is hideous and will be just that, a fad. However, if he wants to invest the money into it and pay you to do it, by all means. Have him sign a waiver that you are not to be held liable, you do not guarantee your work, simply because as a private citizen, you do not have the means to fix any and all issues. Make sure he understands from the get go the possible side-effects, ie: sluggish acceleration if he stays with the stock gearing, possible axle weakness issues by adding wheels of that size especially since they usually are a lot wider than stock also, crappy ride, unstable handling, etc.

Back on the topic of the "Death Road", I just wonder if they ever thought of allowing the road to be open "one way" every few hours to allow traffic to flow with out any head on accidents?

Americans could never drive that road and survive, we have had several accidents here in the mountains latley that the driver/vehicle were not found over steep embakments for several days. One took over a year to be discovered!

They made a new highway to rid some of the two way traffic but it said it's still 2 way because of the people who live on the one way stretch of the old road.

Why not just drop that olds on a 3/4 ton gm chassy, 12 lift and 12" body lift, then those 24"s gonna look small...

I believe there was a thread pertaining to that quite recently... I told him to buy a Jeep and lift it with his "Fows" and some 38 inch mud tires! 24s and 38s would look pretty sweet for a pavement ride on a 4x4 vehichle of course, Not a car. Unless it was a charger!

Actually we have a 80 something eldorado running around these parts on truck chassis, sweet looking with 35's and he takes it off road too... there's also a pinto on a chassis running around too, not seen it in a couple of years but it was one of those station wagon pintos with the portholes in the rear windows. I think the same guy owned them both.

Custom is custom. I like it all.
Remember when low rider bicycles started coming along? Loved those too.
Don't want to own one, heck there are a lot of cool custom rigs out there that are not my style, but I can still dig them!

Build it, do it well and charge for what you do. $800 isn't half of what you should be charging.....
