What do you guys carry? How do you like it? Pros? Cons?
I'm thinking of putting one on my Christmas list.
Thanks!

Is it comfortable to squeeze the pliers?
Thanks for the link.

Very, they all pretty much set in flush, and I haven't pinched skin off yet using them.

Leatherman Wave.
Blades and file also opens one handed. I bought the set of replaceable drivers for it, but I can't quite get myself to wear them and the leatherman, so I think that is a feature that isn't so useful.
This is my 3rd leatherman. I had a Gerber, felt tinny in comparison.

When i do carry one (generally only when I'mlikely to need it) it's a Leatherman Wave. The only thing it's lacking is a ruler on the side of it, although I beleive some Leathermen do have them.

Gerber Multi-Plier 600. Fits the hand well, and the "closed" ends are presented to use the pliers. With practise, you can get pretty much any blade out one-handed (which can come in really handy!) and the 600DET has a holder for standard jigsaw blades, comes with a RemGrit hacksaw blade (which works well.)
Black phosphate finish over stainless alloy - very nice.

Hey now that ain't my stratagy! :gee:(or did you mean this guy) (http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/presidents/bc42.html) :D
Anyway, I'll throw the Leatherman Charge TTi (http://www.leatherman.com/products/tools/charge-TTi/default.asp) into the mix. Great all around, ended up with it for the price of the Wave at a dealers mistake.

I use this one. The pliers are comfortable to use, and the tools are accessed from the outside and they lock into position. I've had it for more than 8 years and I use it every day.

Whichever one you choose, a model with locking screw driver blades saves a lot of anguish, especially when used on stubborn screws. I must have 3 older models in my junk drawer that had non locking screwdriver blades that folded onto a finger at one time or another. One model had a combo flat blade screwdriver and bottle opener that required a pair of pliers to remove from my finger.

Do the screwdrivers and blades lock on the Wave? That one was bookmarked already.
Thanks,

They dont "lock" but the handles fold over it, preventing it from closing on you.
I have a wave as well. Dont carry it everz day, but its always with me wheeling, or in my room. Rather suprising how much I use it.
And mine has a small ruler on the side. :yelclap:

Not true.
While the interns you've had are certainly tools I'm not so sure about the multi.

No, however when running them on stubborn screws I will fold it back up (how you're supposed to operate them) and with the natural squeezing motion applied while turning it holds it tight.
Whatever you do don't get an offbrand one, I forget the name but it has these odd blade release catches on the sides that just plain suck. I about lost a finger working with one of those...

I like my Wave, the screwdriver does lock in place.
there is a ruler on the inside.
It's not a very good pair of pliers though, good for retrieving things, or crimping butt connectors, but don't plan on grabbing anything substantial and making it work.
Overall I like it very much, the blades hold an edge well. I've only sharpened it a few times in the year I've had it. I use it daily.

My first was a Bucktool, made by the Buck Knives company. It was OK, but far from ideal. The handles folded over the needlenose head in a weird way. When you would be squeezing on something and go to twist it, the handles would collapse. Vey poor design.
I currently have a Leatherman Supertool 200. I really like it. All tools lock into place, has a ruler too. I really like it, and use it alot.
Looks like the Supertool 200 has been retired.

I carry a leatherman or my super special gerber with the jigsaw blade.
Note, you should not use the blades for prying on either. I like the Gerber because you can change the cutting edges on the pliers, and swap in a different jigsaw blade, but it is waaay bulky. I like the leatherman for everyday use as it is compact and almost as functional as the Gerber. The leatherman isn't nearly as comfortable to use as the gerber.
I have forgotten my toolbag on occasion or been caught without it on jobs, and have gotten through with either of these tools. (electrical/electronics work)
