Hi guys, I'm going to finally install my ZEX nitrous tomorrow night but I have a quick question...

It's a dry shot kit that has a line that needs to run to the test port on the fuel rail from the solenoid pack. How do I go about attaching a line to that test port since it looks just like a regulare tire valve? Also, I need to tap into the TPS sensor wires... the solenoid pack is supposed to sense what the voltage curve is and only hit at wide open throttle when engaged. What wires are they and what one should I tap into? (I know where the TPS is, but I'm hesitant to cut into wires unless I have some sort of confirmation from others that know more then I do :) Haha)

Thanks guys
Mark

Ok, so no replies... oh well.

I got my tank mounted and my line run up to the front of the Jeep and my Nitrous Management Unit mounted. I still need to run the lines from the NMU to the intake, to the fuel pressure regulator and to the intake manifold plenum...

I know where and how I'll run the line into the intake and to the fuel rail, but the one to the intake manifold plenum is kinda baffling me... stupid generic install instructions. Apparently they say there should be an unused vacuum fitting coming off the intake manifold plenum that i can just tap in to, but I don't see it.
Any help?

BTW I have the wiring mostly figured out. I'll dig around later this weekend with a multimeter and double check though.

Oh here's a PDF of the install instructions:
http://www.zex.com/Base/Instructions/ZEX109.pdf (http://http://www.zex.com/Base/Instructions/ZEX109.pdf)

I'm trying to figure out page 7 step 6.

If you're going to hit the test port for additional fuel, you're going to need the female valve that fits over the test port (it's usually a style of Schrader valve.) No, I don't know where you'd go about finding one offhand - but I would probably start with an outfit that makes fuel pressure test valves that attach to the rail - like K&D Tools. They mey sell you a couple...

Good luck!

why not jsut get a wet shot kit?

on the TPS connector, terminal A is 5 volts feed power, terminal B is ground and terminal C changes with the throttle arm.

hope this helps.

Perfect! Thanks man!

why not jsut get a wet shot kit?

Because this kit cost me less then 1/4 what I'd pay for a wet shot... :)

Oh hey, I had forgotten about this thread... Update time:

I got the install done, mounted the tank in the rear where the spare tire used to be. Ran the line through the floor in the rear along the inside of the frame rail up to the engine bay. I have the controller mounted where the airbox used to be (I have a K&N style filter now).

Install was quite straightforward once I got into it. There's 1 line running from the tank into the controller... that ones a no brainer because it's labelled nitrous in on the controller. Then I have 3 lines running out. 1 gets tapped into the intake (this is where the nitrous shoots into the system), 1 get hooked up to the fuel regulator vacuum line with a T fitting, and the other gets run into another vacuum line up by the firewall on the manifold. Those 2 lines boost the vacuum signal when the nitrous is engaged to trick the computer into feeding more gas into the system.

For wiring theres 3 leads coming from the box. 1 is ground, 1 is 12v power (run that into your switch in the cab) and 1 gets tapped into the TPS (there's 3 wires in the TPS, 1 is 5V power supply, 1 is common ground and 1 varies form 0.8 to 5V as you hit the gas).

Then to program it, there's a reset button on the controller... you turn the ignition on, but don't start the Jeep. Then you turn on the nitrous power and push the reset button. Then you push the gas down to the floor, hold it for a few seconds and then release it. The controller reads the voltage curve of the TPS and uses that to engage the nitrous only when you'r at WOT. Shut the whole system down and start er up and let er rip.

I haven't given it a test run yet because I'm still waiting for the proper jets to come in (they were special order apparently?). The engineers at ZEX recommended a 28 jet on the nitrous side and a 38 on the fuel side to get a 40 shot from the system. They should be in tonight so I'll give it a test run this weekend sometime.

well how did it go ? did you get the results that you were expecting ?

PIC'S would be nice !

Test run went well :) I just played around on the gravel roads outside the city and i haven't had a chance to run it in the mud yet but it was definately noticeable and everything sounds great! It's not quite as noticeable as I originally though it might be, but you do still feel it. I'm quite happy with it so far... we'll see how it does offroad now.

Pics to come...

Nitrous and gravel? Sounds like you don't like your tires much! Have fun though, don't get too greedy with it- it's easy to do with n20 and that's when things can get expensive.

Hey, how are things going, I have a used dry setup for my race car (and the solenoids for wet) but it would take me 30min to put in the xj as the car won't run till next season.

so how has the nitrous worked. Im planning on installing one on mine with a 75 shot. We do local mud races here and have a 6cyl open class and there are others running the nitrous and some with turbos. Let me know if it is working good.
