View Full Version : Rockin' XJ Jamboree, Johnson Valley Nov 17-18....information

Goatman
October 7th, 2007, 20:44
The RocknXJ Jamboree will be Sat and Sun, Nov 17-18 at Johnson Valley, CA, home of the Hammer trails. This is a great time to have fun with friends, meet new people, and get in some good wheeling. There are trails from mild to wild, stock rigs or rock buggies. Camping is on the dry lake bed, with no facilites, so bring what you need. There will be a couple portable PETT toilets, and WAG bags are $2.

Saturday evening there will be dinner and a raffle. Profits from the raffle will go to So Cal NAXJA and to Friends of Panamint Valley to help in the efforts to reopen Surprise Canyon. So, bring a few bucks for dinner and for plenty of raffle tickets. We're not going to pre-sell any dinner tickets, but please post up if you are planning to be there so we can get an idea of how much food to get for dinner.

Johnson Valley is in the high desert between Victorville and Yucca Valley. Take Hwy 247 roughly 22 miles from either Lucerne Valley or Yucca Valley to Boone Rd. Turn north on Boone Rd, which is a dirt road, and follow it about 4 miles to the dry lake bed.

See you there,

Or else. Been a whole damn year almost. Talking to Richard the other day about organizing, runs, etc... We always start out under the assumption that I'll/we'll be running with the harder group.

Never works out like that. Why? He knows it too, we have a ton of fun running with the guys we know/the more reasonable runs, just too damn important. I spend most of my personal time like the others running against personal challenge.

This run like a few others is for running with good trails friends. I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm hoping all you guys sign up for my trail run again!

Some jumper cables and a coat hanger (or for the more sophisticated, jumper cables and welding rod!)

Just getting this back to the front page. A few of us were out there for the weekend and had another few days of great wheeling. I'm going to post up a thread for trail choices so we can get a better idea of what we need to do, and what trail leaders and tail gunners we'll need.

I'm still waiting on a new ram, then have to install it. That's the only must do thing.

I have plenty of stuff that still needs to be done on the buggy to be finished. I jammed like crazy to get it done enough to run for last year's event, I figured it would be totally finished by now, but........... :dunno:

At least the front suspension and steering is like I want it now, with a number of revisions to the steering and two to the track bar. Still lot's and lot's of misc things to do.

adj pinion angles
check exhaust manifold leak

non of this should keep me from going, but it is my daily driver which makes it a little harder to work on....

Umm.....well.....load with repair supplies and fuel up?
There does appear to be a bit of a toe in issue but that might take ten or so minutes to adjust. I'd like to replace the brand friggin' new seat belts with a different style belt.......hmmmm.... I could DO that.
Maybe put the fan on a switch, there is a small leak from the steering pump, I should repair that.

Over the last two months my AAA card has taken a hit or three.
A two from Indio back to Borrego for a frozen thermostat.
A two from the relay tower in Truckhaven back home for a frozen idler pully.
Hadto call them out last weekend when I blew a tire on the RV and didn't have the appropriate socket to pull the damn thing.
Yep, I'm a big fan of a Premier RV AAA card!

Yo, grillio, what's the dealio on dinner?

Burgers and hot links, beans, chips, potato salald, brownies........the usual fare. We were thinking about tri-tip this year, but it's too hard to guess when we really don't know how many people will be there. This keeps it simple enough, and it's not too expensive to be sure we have enough.

You never know Ron.

By the way, pin lock or ball lock?

I have 5 gallons of Imperial Stout that needs to be used.

You da man. Pin lock.

My brew area got dismantled back in June, and I havn't found a new home for it yet, so I didn't get anything brewed.

Ryan is getting pretty good, he's bringing out a few gallons.

--ronWell my kegging stuff is all ball lock. I can bring 5 gallons of Imperial Stout and 5 gallons of Honey Wheat. I have a way to serve it, just not a way to chill it. Suggestions? I'm new to brewing so it may taste like shit.
Morman 1% by volume? :DIt's Mormon!

And no.....

I'm not from Utah, I'm only here for my job.

Add about 10% more to your estimate would be more like it.

Maybe Ron can bring out his Jockey box. just get ice and make sure its carbonated.
I'm bringing 5 gallons of double red 9.2% 96 ibu's... ass kicker. 5 gallons of 5.25% Hefe'Weizen. 5 gallons dark Lager 7ish%. 10 gallons of cream ale 5.5%. that one is ok... didn't finish as well as I wanted but it will do a good job of quenching thirst on the warm days and dumbing people down.
Gonna throw 3 gallons of hard cider together tonight and hope it ferments in time.
a bottle of frozen Chopin vodka that will make the rounds. Ron better bring a second one. or at least a jug of captn' moron... for those captn' cokes.
if you can't get a jocky box together you can add your kegs to mine cooler.
I make a cooler in the corner of my trailer out of 2" styrfoam sheet from home depot. duct taped together. I can make it a little longer to hold an extra pair of kegs. I put blocks of ice in the bottom pack it all around and my kegs are all chilled in the fridge. this lasts all weekend and there is ice left when I get home. this time I am going to come up with a cover for the cooler. and with nights down in the 40's that helps.
just give me a heads up and I can make it a little longer. I'll be out there friday around noonish.

Can someone post up some directions for folks on how to get to the camp from the 15 fwy?

I will be coming from OC. Someone said I could go out towards Palm Springs and then bring the 247 (?) in from the backside?

Which would be better? I am driving out EARLY Sat morning.

Thanks

So far, so good. We'll need some firewood as we always do. I'm bringing a couple of tables, but we could always use a couple more. We'll need them to serve dinner, plus to hand out shirts and sell raffle tickets. I could use a couple of people to help with distributing the shirts, and I know Ron could probably use some help with the raffle tickets.

I'll start another thread with directions and some last minute details.
