My engine compartment has a washing machine sound?

It started yesterday, kinda sounds like (whooooosh, whooooosh rattle whooooosh) etc. I at first thought it was a torque converter going out, then climbed underneath with my home made stethoscope and the sound is louder on the engine side. and also more noticeable from the top. While it was running I placed my hand around on the motor and notice that the sound and feel corresponded most on the distributor. any thoughts? anyone else have this issue?

Mine start making a strange noise. Noise coming from distributor also. Turned out to be the bearing on the distributor shaft. Ended up buying a reman unit.

I have a distributor here for an 90 here will it be the same as the 96?
