U Joints and New Rear End

I am sorry to be posting so much stuff tonight but seems the last month of stuff is gone due to the sever crash. (I started to be active 2 weeks ago, but lost member rights with crash).

All questions are for my 99 XJ 2.5L, AX5 Manual Transmission

New question - U Joints
Since I am in working on the transmission and have the drive shaft out, and have to wait a week or so on parts, I was thinking about also replacing the U Joints. Should I go with just over the counter U Joints or do someting better, in the past I had a habit of putting them in water putting stuff in the lake.

Take on a old question. Being that I have 2wd and that 4wd is out of the question unless I buy a new Jeep, but on a Army Specialist's salary it isn't gonna happen, I want to put a limited slip or locker in my rear end, thereby effectively giving me 2 wheels of traction. I remember someone posting about putting in power track or someting like that. I was researching that but I was wanting to know what else is out there and what people think is the best idea.

OTC U-joints should be just fine - it's what most of us use. If you have a habit of getting into water, I suggest getting greasable joints (with zerks) - since that allows you to "flush" the joint with fresh grease after a wet trip.

There's nothing wrong with a TAD in a 2WD vehicle - Posi got started in musclecars. A locker might be a bit much (depends on what you do,) but a limited-slip won't cause you any trouble at all - and could very well help you!

And, an XJ is reasonably easy to convert to 4WD - once you have all the parts, they bolt right in (as I understand it.) If you can get a rolled donor, that should net you everything all at one go for a small bit of cash.

As far as your membership - I understand that the member co-ordinator and the new admin (we just had both turn over...) will be reviewing records for the last month to find out who joined and fix their status - so please be patient. It may take a little while, you know...
