View Full Version : my ticket rant.

well some of you know, some dont. i got a ticket on the 1st of july for going 125mph in a 70 on the 5 freeway at 3am on the way home from reno. i was in "Kings County" just outside of Avenal CA (around exit 319). i went to court today and was made an example of. there were 4 people ahead of me in court with tickets for speed in excess of 100mph (its all the same violation until you hit 130). all of them were 18-22 and students. all of them recieved fines of 500$-700$. i figured cool, the judge is having a good day. i went up to the stand, judge asked me the basics, did you do it, yes, are you sorry, yes, are you a student, no..... why not? well sir i have a wife and 3 kids to support i cant afford to go to school right now.... young man turn around and face the other defendants. (i do) everyone look at this man. this could be you if you keep speeding. this man has a family, works hard for a living, and he just lost his license. imagine what you would do in his situation and change your ways. Mr. Vincent? yes your honor? your license is hereby suspended for the maximum time allowed by law, 30 days. you are herby ordered to pay $1038, the maximum fine for the speed you were recorded while driving. you should be ashamed of yourself. have a nice day.

:soapbox: what a dick. i dont understand why he picked me to rail so hard... i guess he favors students.

It sucks...but its the chance we take when we drive that fast.

I've been 160 on the 15 and got a ticket 5 minutes later for 95. Sometimes you're lucky...sometimes not.

hey that sucks,Can we all get together to help you?I'm thinking we all can go there an drive ohh lets say 55mph in all lanes..We could put the judges name on our jeeps, so they know who to thank

GrimmJeeper

im not ranting about the ticket, i know i deserve it, hell i was doing 140 2 minutes before that (and i did make it home from reno to LA in 6 hours :D). i started slowing down when i saw headlights in the distance. it just sucks being singled out. everyone else's speeds were 117, 114, 119, and 122. close enough for everyone to be treated the same i think.

lol

just watch your speed between exits 300 and around the 350s thats kings county. you'll know you are there becuase they have signs on the side of the road that say "875 liscences revoked or suspended so far this year!!" they are notoriously anal about giving speeding tickets.

You're a father and supposed to know better.

When I went back to read this, it looked like I was being an ass.

I was not trying to be, just explaining to you the mentality involved. As a parent you are responsible for thinking greater than yourself.

My guess is that he hammered you because you're a grown man and should (and do) know better. I am glad to see you manned up and accepted your punishment. I am by no means lecturing you as I have gone 170+ on the freeway early in the morning. I am really glad I wasn't caught, but if I had been, like you, I would only have blamed myself. I am sure this experience will hugely affect your decisions in the future. That's what the judge wants to happen. I wish you well as you deal with having no license for a month. I'm glad for you that they didn't take your car and throw you in the klink for a while. Good luck, John.

I can't even imagine 125, much less 170.

I had a camaro with some work done to it that would cruise at 140 all day, it didn't care. That was like 8 years ago. Everything I've driven before the Camaro, and since the camaro, I count myself lucky to get to 80 and keep it there without problems.

Still sucks the judge shafted you.

Well first of all let me say you "think" she is late braking. Bimmers just have good brakes. All my freinds used to think I drove that way until they drove my BMW.

That said. My friend got a ticket in his TT supra out by bakersfield (100+). The judge gave him a fine and denied traffic school. While he was inline to pay the fine the bailiff came and got him. The judge gave traffic school to some older lady behind him for same speed and had him called back in to allow him traffic school as well. Thats being fair. This judge is an asshole regardless of what you were doing and regardless of being an adult with children. I know many old race cars drivers who haul ASS and are they as bad as you guys on here say?

I feel for you - got my license suspended for a month when I still lived in Germany, going 112 in a 75 zone.

The worst thing was that the cops followed me for about 15 miles (in an unmarked car), then pulled me over and made me watch the video. :D

I think I was lucky that I was driving my VW Golf that day, because if I had been in my dad's Audi S2 Coupe (which I was frequently driving at the time), I would have gone a lot faster than that and could have lost my license for 6 months or longer easily.

Going home from working late shift in it at 2 or 3 am, I'd often hit 175 on the stretches of Autobahn that didn't have a speed limit. :D

That's one of the few things I miss about driving these days....

The judges deal with stupid people all day who, a majority, thinks that their chit doesnt stink and they just happened to be caught. Most prolly have the intention of doing it again with no regard for the laws. So even if you are a nice guy, the judges are hard on everyone except for those little old ladies who seem innocent or people who are more like victims.

Sucks to hear what was dealt to you but look at the bright side, atleast you didnt get involved in an accident; you get to be chaffeured around; you can get drunk as much as you want since you HAVE to have a designated driver...

Cheers

2004 BMW 325is performance chip, cold air intake, 1" lowered roadrace struts, aftermarket swaybars front and rear, front strut tower stiffener, pirelli firehawk Z rated tires... ive had it up to 160 before, it hugs the road like it was a teddy bear :D the faster i go the harder it grips. its a shame we cant afford the damn car anymore its going to get repo'd.... anyone who wants a badass bimmer set up for roadracing watch the LA county auctions lol.

Yes I am. Moved to CA in December 1999. :)

Hanau, huh? Yep, there are some niiiice areas around there for driving fast, in the Spessart and Taunus. :)

I was working for a car rental company for a while and sometimes helped transferring cars to other locations. My record was 5 1/2 hours from Hamburg to Stuttgart (airport to airport) - about 420 miles, including two stops for gas and coffee. :D

I wish I could just once (legally) drive a decent go-fast car across the desert on the 40 as fast as it would go. Every time we drive to Colorado, I get all fidgety on that stretch between Barstow and Flagstaff.

I know what you mean, it scares me how many drivers here seem to either have bought their driver's licenses at Wal-mart, or won them in the lottery.

There is no way in hell people like that would ever pass a driver's test in Germany (which has a strict system of accredited driving schools with professional instructors, a minimum of hours you have to practice driving before you can even take a test, etc.), or if they did manage, they sure wouldn't keep their licenses for long. The thought of these people out on the streets, going at a speed of 100+ mph without sufficient control and driving skills is terrifying.

But yes, dammit, I do miss it! :D

x2 If you wanna go that fast fine. But when you get the shaft for it, sucks to be you...;) Seriously tho, I've been there. I got caught for drinking underage on Okinawa while in the Marine Corps. I got $600 taken away, along with rank, and my liberty. I wasn't allowed to leave base, wear anything except cammies or PT gear, and I had to check in every hour when not at work. I bitched about it for a while but, I did go out drinking on a regular basis at 19 yrs of age and I got caught. A female Marine was caught drinking at 18 yrs old, with a Captain and a 1stSgt (so add fraternization on top) and it was swept under the rug. Why was I chosen as an example? Who cares, maybe now you'll reconsider going that fast on public roads, eh?

EDIT: I also agree about if you can handle it and so can the car then what's the problem, but the law doesn't and I've gotta side with that(as long as it isn't absolutely retarded...) Too many people get a fast car that can handle high speeds and think nthat now they can too but can't. That's where the speed limit comes in. The judge doesn't know you from anyone else so he probably was just thinking like was said, You oughtta know better... :)

Aww, that wasn't nice! :roflmao:

The ones going 40 in a 70 zone, in the left lane, and have their turn signal on for 15 minutes without turning anywhere are a lot worse.

Or all the idiots who seem to think the use of turn signals is entirely optional.
