Temp lite goes crazy???

I was on my way up state in my 96 w/ a 4.0 and the temp light started to come on but i didnt think i was really overheating. now its been about a week and a half and i know im not overheating why does the light keep coming on it must be a short it blinks and goes on and off when i gas it. Just wanted to know where the sensor is so i can check it out?

i believe that sensor is at the back of the engine about 3 inches from the firewall. behind the valve cover. should be noted in this link:

carefull tried pulling mine and snapped off the top

If you are to remove it run engine with the radiator cap off to full temperature. Shut the engine off and carefully try to break it loose it will be hot but I've done about a dozen this way and yet to have snapped one yet. :cheers:
